Where can I get automotive paint?

I'm looking for some black basecoat/clearcoat/primer paint for my 240sx. I replaced a rear aftermarket bumper and got myself a red S14 bumper for the time being, might consider repainting the rear just to match with my black 240.

The color code of my 97 240sx is
Super Black KH3.

Are there anyplace local I can consider checking out? I heard of paintscratch.com but it might take weeks just to ship it over. (not to mention international shipping fees apply as well)

awww SHOOOT. wrong section (supposed to post this in the automotive section....) mods, if you can, could you move this?

Select Lordco locations have paint shops in them that can mix it up for you.

I've gone to Concept Finishes in Richmond in the past for custom spraybombs.

Expresso 10-08-2010 08:17 AM

Lordco at Metro sells automotive paint, not sure about the quality though.

Lordco on #3 has a paint specialist. He scanned my brother's car and made him some cans up.

Lordco can't get parts right most the time I would never trust them with paint. Your best bet would be a trusted body shop I'm sure most would mix you up some for a couple bucks,

i called Lordco for their prices, i asked for the MINIMUM amount of paint because its just only for my rear bumper, and they quoted me around $200 for the paint + with the clearcoat.... I was hoping for something much cheaper though.... arghh.

Concept finishes is reasonable, quoting me around $50 taxes in. Anyplace else?

shenmecar 10-08-2010 09:15 AM

Probably should go ask a body shop to do it for you. I know Lordco's spraybomb cans are about 35 each

sonick 10-08-2010 09:17 AM

A bumper's gonna require at least 3 spraybombs. A body shop could prolly do it for you for about the same price if it was prep'd and primed already.

Nintensity 10-08-2010 09:18 AM

3 spraybombs? dang. I'm on a budget just because i'll upgrade to a better body kit later on next year, I'm just staying with a stock one for now, and I don't want to dump too much money on a stock.

so just to be clear, do these spray paint cans come in custom colours to match your paint? cuz for $35 i could sure use one.

If it's a stock color you can get it at Canadian Tire.

Yeah. I painted a front air dam for my car (about bumper-sized), needed two cans of primer and about 3 cans. 4 cans would have been better. Pics of the job here: http://www.revscene.net/forums/showp...2&postcount=18

If the car is older, the paint may have faded. Custom-mixes can compensate for the fading if you bring in a peice of your car (usually the gas filler door).

I can vouch for concept finishes. My shop buys supplies from them. You can also try Pacific Western paint. They are around burn rd and marine. They sell PPG. Your paint is a solid black, no pearls or metallics, I don't see why it would be overly expensive to mix. Both of these stores should be able to compress and store in a spray bomb for you. Also ask pacific western about catalyzed spray bomb clearcoat. Apparently it gives it the autobody shop clearcoat shine. We buy from both stores. Tell them Vince from Ladner autobody sent you, you may get a bit of a price break.

Since your color is a solid black, look into doing all the prep work yourself and then get a shop to paint it for you. Shouldn't be much more than what your paying for all the spraybombs.

Also sorry sonick, but custom mixes do not compensate for fading.

Interesting, I was led to believe that they did when they asked for my gas filler door to match. Good to know.

6thGear. 10-08-2010 05:29 PM

a gas cap is commonly used when they scan the paint, but it's actually more common sense for them to scan close to where your painting.

bought paint from lordco out in coquitlam many times; very knowledgeable great quality & perfectly matched

Spooling 10-08-2010 06:00 PM

what you could do is buy the basecoat tinters from smaller bodyshops. specify the paint code. they give it to you in plastic liners, already mixed.

jing 10-08-2010 06:41 PM

Should've just bought that black one for sale on here

shantz 10-08-2010 07:18 PM

I'll mix you a touch-up bottle of basecoat if you like... it'll take 2 min.

for clear - just go to Save-On or raid your girlfriends purse for some clear nail polish

frankbear 10-09-2010 06:07 AM

not local to you, but you can get OEM paint from TouchUpPaintOnline.com. I got a G35 with the same color you do (KH3) and got paint there to paint a roof spoiler. The body shop wanted $190 to paint it and it's less than 2 inches tall. Got a spray can from that site for $20 plus some clearcoat and now it look like factory paint. They also have those small bottles too if you want to do touch ups.

RiceIntegraRS 10-09-2010 11:40 AM

KH3 is the absolute easiest color to match. r u doing this urself or paying someone to do it?

and i believe the reason why lordco quoted u alot is cause u cant buy clearcoat in amounts that u exactly want. u have to buy the whole gallon i believe. But for basecoat u can

Just ordered some touch up paint from that site, did u need to prime ur spoiler too? cause that will cost some money

frankbear 10-09-2010 07:38 PM

I got primer, because they have automotive primer, which is different than the regular primer you see in Walmart or other stores. I did get their primer to put on my spoiler.
