| Win 7 key under the laptop
My gf got this Toshiba laptop from her manager for free, it was loaded with Winxp, when I flip over the laptop a label shows a Win7 Pro key.
Can I simply download a Win7 Pro ISO and activate with that key?

I believe so. It's probably an OEM key, so you'll need the OEM version of W7 Pro.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes you can, but ONLY on that computer...
Chances are the key has been activate on the computer already - so the key would be invalid on any other computer unless you can convince microsoft that there's some sort of error

Correct me if I'm wrong. | This is correct- however it is VERY difficult to find it. I gave up (if you find one let me know )
FYI there are hacks you can do to any normal ISO that you do, then you reburn the ISO and it should work. A bit of googling will help you there. I was just too lazy, but apparently there are cases where it works!

i got a question... what happens when the key underneath the laptop gets rubbed out?
i dont know how mine always disappear as if they were printed with invisible ink (the clear plastic protective sticker is still there but the letters underneath on the strip are gone)

Otherwise, every other update works fine like a champ.

When Vista hit they did away with separate OEM discs, it was just retail/oem disc and then enterprise disc.
I'm pretty sure win7 is the same, try to get your hands on a win7 disc or untouched iso. Posted via RS Mobile |

Been using it since Christmas with no complaints! All updates work fine, except for that one. Posted via RS Mobile |
