Oliver Drage: Pedophile Or... Oliver Drage, a 19 year old teen was put in jail in the UK for 4 months for refusing to give police the password to his computer. He used a 50char password that police haven't been able to crack, despite his original arrest on suspicion of child sexual exploitation back in May 2009. In the US there have been two cases where someone refused to give up their password, and in both cases the courts sided with the person refusing to give their password. In one case in the US, the police had access to a computer (since it was running), but when they turned it off and re-booted they were locked out. This is one of the cases where the owner did not have to give police their password. So what do people think? Do this guys personal freedoms trump the police (who obvously have other evidence to bring Oliver Drage in as part of a much larger investigation)? Do you think of this guy as a pedophile for choosing 4 months jail time instead of letting police see what he has? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-11479831 |
The password is.... HaiGuysI'mPedobearWouldyoulikesomecandylittlegirl? Berz out. |
^ GENIUS Really quite simple. Just let him go, return his computer, installed with a keylogger. Bust him when he logs on. :D |
^I doubt it'd be that easy to keylog someone with a 50 char password :P. If he's set free he'll probably just reformat everything and he'll have nothing to hide anymore. |
If you have nothing to hide, why go to jail for it? |
I don't know much about password encryption, but are there really encryption methods that are 100% unhackable? |
You don't really Hack passwords you just try all combination's of keys until you find it. Having a 50char password would take years of a computer trying ever single combo. I'm chuckling at the though of people counting to see if I used 50char's on my password ;) Berz out. |
your telling me that there's no one/program they could use to crack it? |
He's saying the process of hacking a password is about trying various combinations using computers. With 4 digits, it can be quickly done but at 50, it'll take forever even using the fastest computer. |
I always thought that hackers used their programming skills to hack into things |
Can't they just take the hard drive and access it via another comp as a separate drive and copy everything? |

Theres 47*2(All the characters on the keyboard *2 because you can shift) different choices per character of the password. So that means theres (47*2)^50 different possible combinations, good luck with that. http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=(47*2)^50 |
This fucker's obviously hiding something i wouldn't go to jail for 4 months as a statement of my fucking personal rights. |
TIME FOR SOME INCEPTION |

But then again, I'll be surprised at the number of dumbasses that would rather get detained for legal rights on car searches when they have nothing to hide anyway. Then cry about it on RS. lol |
