Spending 3 weeks with my wife in the French Polynesia for our honeymoon. Just thinking about it makes my troubles go away.

Being broke as fuck to the point it was hard (almost impossible) to afford the parts I wanted for my car... yet having all the time in the world to work on it and drive it.

2007.
Just out of Highschool.
Had a good paying job, girlfriend, great friends, a new car, and I pretty much had my life in order but still in school.

Then it went downhill.
Then the rest of 2008 was pretty good. And it went downhill from there again. 2009/2010 is a drunken/drug fueled blur. I probably had a serious drinking problem, and I hated everything about my life. I wanted to move away just to get away from everything and everyone.

But this is another year. And 2011 is pretty good. I have my life back in order again. I found myself, and I'm on my way there with great friends. Plus, there's gonna be a new addition to the family, so I can't fuck it up now. I need that kid more than it'll need me.

I can relate...

In any case, our situations are classic "every guy alive" scenarios!

Looking back, I would say that my life between finishing university and moving out was a pretty damn good time in my life. I made 40K back then, but because I had virtually no financial obligations as I still lived at home, I could spend my money on whatever I wanted. I went to Europe and backpacked for a couple of weeks, I bought clothes to my heart's content, women were easy to meet, and my body could easily take alcohol abuse.

But, as Biggie put it so eloquently in 1995, the mo' money you see, the mo' problems you get. I'm nearly 30 now and I must say that while I have more assets now than ever before, my body has slowed down and I've become increasingly jaded about the world and people.

For me it was when my niece was born, and when I met my current gf. More recently its when I started to get into photography. It led me to doing RS photowalks and I've met some great new friends. Two of which are my partners where we started up Art of Stance. It's creating new opportunities for me and renewed my love of cars.

Unique location. What makes it worth going to, and is it expensive?

Now. Grateful for Today. Just looking forward on each new day.

- Great Friends
- GF is great to me (not bad on the looks, think Blake Lively in her nudie pics. Down to the size of the areola).
- Great Job - through the economic down turn, salary is still increasing
- Parents and sister is in good/great heath.

HS and University were great. But I was broke poor. I remember when my serious GF in University broke up with me (wasnted to marry her). She said that I could not "afford her". Left me for some short ugly ass guy. Made me think that I was even worst. Everything went down. Depression, bad grades at school, weight went down from 160 to 125. Stopped working. The home situation was terrible too. My Dad was in the IT field and he was affected by the remnants of the Tech bubble. Our household was getting into a lot of debt.

Then I just picked myself up. I realized that my problems ain't shit compared to others. I just had to reinvent myself and lose my enormous ego.

Back to the spirit of this thread:

Memorable Highs

-Valentine's Day with my ex gf from Uni (laying on the couch in the morning with her, everything was going great - had that sense of peace)

-Convocation @ SFU - weight off my shoulder, realizing my life plans are coming to fruition, realizing that going through the downturn was worth it just to shake the Dean's hand

-First career related job

-Senior Year High school - Girls, Friends, Varsity Team, School - perfect balance

- Best blowjob: she was on that Jenna Haze shit... (she swallowed of course)

- Squating 3 plates on a squat rack for the first time (felt unstoppable).

- Turning $5000 to $100,000 in 6 months as an option trader I do on the side. This was under my TFSA account too - tax free. Broke down and started crying.

- When all my core group of friends are all together just chilling.

- Playing bball and the opposing player just goes "whoa" on something I did (happened once)

My message for the RS fam: May the best of your today, be the worst of your tomorrow - Jay z.

We went during late November/early December in 2009 in what was called their "low season" but it was still pretty expensive (You could have a really nice trip in Europe for probably a third of what we ended up paying. However, it's remote (so airfare was $$$) and because it was the low season, we had the beaches around our resort to ourselves...quite literally.

However, the seascape and landscape these islands contain is just phenomenol. Being able to swim with so many different sea creatures (moray eels, reef sharks, dolphins, countless species of fish and touching a giant manta ray) was for my wife and I, a once in a lifetime experience.

This was our view from our motu's balcony. The water was shallow for miles and to wake up to this and just swim away...pure bliss. Being able to enjoy that with my wife, was greater than any monetary gains, career goals, personal assets I've ever made or accumulated. It was life-changing in the most positive way.

Going Europe (Paris/Rome/Florence) with gf, now Ex. Most romantic moment was the Paris By Night cruise ride with beautiful french music and night life. Oh and also going camping and ocean kayaking with her out in the Vancouver Islands when we first dated, out in the woods, cuddling under the tarp in the pouring rain outside. I still can't forget these memories.

Summer '04 - I'd just bought my first car, a Mk1 MR2 two weeks before provincial exams. Every day my motivation to study was to finally be able to teach myself stick and drive that fucker. Every day I'd walk outside and get in the car just to roll down the hill a couple feet at a time, and it'd be awesome everytime.

Then early one evening I said fuck it. I got in, turned the key in the ignition, and took my foot off that clutch, chirping into 1st - just barely. I made it all the way down Elliot and onto SE Marine for the best fucking drive of my life. Windows down, cool summer breeze, nailing every gear change into the twisties, throwing it into 2nd, pedal to the floor and savoring every second of that screaming 1.6L beast* deep into the redline, flying straight toward the fucking sunset. It was beautiful I won't lie.
*a beastly 117hp and 97lb-ft tq. I never got a ticket in that car and I used to wonder why. This one time I took my car up to a piss-my-pants 120kph and literally a piece of the roof tore off with a crunch. Best car ever.

So I guess the other time was later that year in Fall '04, in my first term, first year engineering. Killed myself late into the night drawing out a crazy ass digital circuit for part of an assignment, packing gate after gate, MUX after decoder onto pages on end. but I finally drew that last bus in and I was done and had a fuckin great time doing it. Went to school the next day and realized nobody in the class of 150 managed to get it. I kinda realized at that point that for once in my life, maybe I'd found something I was actually half way decent at.

- Olympics

- 2011 Stanley Cup Run

- Raving during a time where there were at least 2 raves going on every single weekend (1999-2002ish) Specifically my first ever party in 1999 at SummerLove in Chillawack. Arriving at the venue seeing 10,000 strong, crazy laser shooting into the mountains, awesome music, and everybody having a good time was priceless.

- First ever trip to Cancun with my current gf was awesome. Hotel was perfect, food was perfect, weather was perfect, and quite frankly everything was perfect.

- Disney Land with current gf. Come on! they call it the happiest place on earth for a reason.

Just to name a few I can go on a bit more.

Sorry to shit on some peoples moments but if times in high school were the best time of your life then you need to get out and discover the world and experience things. Exception to those who just graduated.
