Newbie to car: bunch of questions

Got a 2002 Ford Focus ZX3 from mom...my first car...woohooo! Some questions:

1) Any recommendations for a good mechanic in the New Westminster / Burnaby area?

2) I notice the car has been stuttering a second or two longer than usual when starting the car. How do I know whether it's the battery or igniter's fault?

3) Car is 8 years old, but only 42,000 km, do I need to replace the battery? Never replaced before.

4) Driver side power window wobbles a bit when going up or down, and also drops a little bit before moving up. Any idea why this might be? I took it to speedyglass and then guy said it was due to wear&tear and sprayed some silicon in the creaks. However, the problem still persists. I'm afraid the window might stop working on me during a rainstorm.

Thanks for your help!

congrats on your first car! have you been looking around in ford focus forums, such as focusbc.net? you can ask them about good ford mechanics. or even make new friends and invite them over to help you out!

by stuttering, do you mean it bounces around at low rpm's once you start it?

and before you replace the battery, check the voltage with a ohm meter! if it reads around 12.6 volts, then you're good

as for window, taking your door panel off would probably be the best way to pinpoint the actual problem with your window. it's almost fall/winter anyways! just keep it up for now =P

sorry i'm not much of help xD hope you do find more help though! good luck
