Where's a Pay N Spray when you need one...

+1 you cannot outrun from the bird's eye especially in broad daylight.

I think you are both being overly confident in your replys, this has happened before on more than one occasion in Alberta... and I'm sure it has probably happened elsewhere.

I dont know the model of the helicopter used by the Vancouver RCMP.. anyone have some specs on range/top speed?

Were those bikes stolen?

What time of day, distance from helipad, etc would all factor in here. Regardless, this guy didn't seem to know the chopper was there, or didn't care to try to lose it, judging by his actions (doubling back and going past the initial stop?)

Can't you just go near the airport? The heli shouldn't be able to invade crowded air space...

And there have been talks on BCSB about it being more worth it than ever to try and outrun the police.. I don't share the same view, but some of those in the sport bike community agree that running is a more viable option now given the harsh consequences of excessive speeding.

beanzzz 10-15-2010 01:14 PM

Going to the airport is probably the worst thing you could do. Even if you do lose Air 1, the airport is full of police, security and surveillance. There's also only one road in and out of the airport.

holy crap, what dumbasses

All they need is your plate, albeit some people make them damn near impossible to see. Like in other threads tho, it's not that hard to stay below 40 over... the more people that run the harsher future rules and laws will become on other riders though.

Air 1 and 2 are Eurocopter AS350's if I'm not wrong. B3 version, so it's got the souped-up engine and redundant controls. There are two helicopters, so one can relieve the other if it runs out of fuel.

According to Wiki, 4 hours endurance and a top speed of 287km/h, which is more than enough to chase *most* vehicles running in the city. On the highway, it's possible you can outdistance the helicopter, but in the city the heli has the advantage because it can fly in straight lines.

RCMP helicopters also probably get priority clearance for airspace.

Most of those guys are all talk, no action. The few who actually would are not aware of MVA 83 and 84 allowing the police to grab their plate and show up at their residence with a tow truck and handcuffs - cause they probably are not aware of what the punishment for evading police is either.

BCSB and BCCOM has organized a meeting with the MLA that sponsored Bill 14. I'm debating attending to see how far riders will dig their grave with silly questions and rants - only reaffirming to the MLA that Bill 14 has merit.

Beat me to it. It's about 180mph or 156 knots. So yes some vehicles could outrun Air1 in a straight line but unless you're on an open empty highway it's never gonna happen. All it has to do is climb and watch you off into the distance until you run out of gas. At that pace on a bike it'd take only a few minutes, they'd meet you at the gas station

tegz 10-15-2010 02:16 PM

LoL... u're not gonna be keeping a constant 300km/h+ on a bike with any kind of sanity flowing through your head highway or not... unless you're ghostrider.

vafanculo 10-15-2010 02:25 PM

Dumbass. $1000 in speeding and towing fines >>>>>> getting caught running from cops

Meh, it's not as insane as you think if the time and place is "right". IE a straight flat 2-lane road in rural California on an early summer evening. Or so I've heard.
