I dont know the model of the helicopter used by the Vancouver RCMP.. anyone have some specs on range/top speed? | Air 1 and 2 are Eurocopter AS350's if I'm not wrong. B3 version, so it's got the souped-up engine and redundant controls. There are two helicopters, so one can relieve the other if it runs out of fuel.
According to Wiki, 4 hours endurance and a top speed of 287km/h, which is more than enough to chase *most* vehicles running in the city. On the highway, it's possible you can outdistance the helicopter, but in the city the heli has the advantage because it can fly in straight lines.
RCMP helicopters also probably get priority clearance for airspace. http://bc.rcmp.ca/ViewPage.action?si...oryIdPrograms= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurocopter_AS350
