I don't get it - the hiker got his leg smashed up, which ended up being fatal? Something's missing...

The problem with a gun is unless its a freaking rifle if you shot one of these guys in the head (or a bear or a moose) the bullet might just ricochet off the head.. They have really thick skulls and if the angle isnt right on it will just bounce off..
