Job Interview at a Pharmacy
 

Before anyone says it, i realize there is a subforum for employment. OT gets much higher traffic and the interview is tomorrow!

Anyways, I received a call today for an opportunity at a pharmacy. I'm aspiring to get into the field so this is an incredible chance for me to get an idea of what it's like.

Are there any tips for an interview of this fashion? What type of questions to expect, what to wear, etc. Should i wear a tie? what colour shirt? full jacket?

as you can probably tell i'm kind of nervous... any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you're applying for a pharmacist position, then you should dress more professionally, and if it's for a technician, then you should still wear a shirt and tie at least.
There will be a lot of interaction and communication with patients, doctor's offices, etc so make sure you show your social and communication skills and isn't socially awkward. They might ask how you deal with difficult situations because you will have to deal with irate customers.
Pharmacies are super busy as well, let them know you can multi-task and work efficiently and that you're hardworking.
ANY kind of prior experience is key. LIke if you know the computer systems. If it's for a tech position, most pharmacies require training/diploma from some college.
Let them know you're aspiring to be in the field and that you want to stay with them for the long term because it's a pain to continually train new people. Show commitment.
Know the pharmacy franchise, ie Shoppers Drug Mart and how it stands out from others.

I've been doing some interviews for co-op recently and generally most of the questions are "tell me about yourself", "describe a time of hardship and how you overcame it" and some knowledge testing questions based on field of work.

As for fashion, wear a suit with the usual dress shirt and tie. As for the colour, I've heard mixed reviews. Some say to play it conservative others say to stand out. Personally, I wear a light purple (almost white) dress shirt with a matching tie.

Be well dressed... Even a construction worker wears a button up shirt for the interview even though hes going to be working in whatever clothes on the job!

Emphasize on your multitasking skills b/c a pharm tech is a pretty multi tasky-ish job

Situational questions during interviews should be answered by saying what you did in reaction to a situation and then explaining your reasoning behind it, and telling them what you've learned from a certain experience.

Don't lie, but don't go out of your way to tell them about your flaws, in fact don't mention anything about your flaws

Research the company eg. safeway pharmacy how many years has it been established for, how many locations, how many employees does it have in canada?

Show interest and be assertive during the interview and try your hardest to come up with intelligent questions that really show your interest in the field.... shouldn't be too hard to do if you ARE actually interested :)

everyone i know that dressed casually in their everyday street clothing and went in all casual and improvised answers on the spot got hired right away. honesty is the best policy for most jobs, plus when you go against the grain, people recognize your difference and confidence in being different.

its like when you really like a girl, you be a bit of an asshole to her. why? so you stand out from the rest of the "nice guys"

Make sure you let them know that you are no longer addicted to Methadone and Oxycontin.

maybe if your going for a entry level sales job ....

As with any job interview, dress accordingly and be confident.

It's always better to over dresss for interviews. A suit & tie can never go wrong (generally speaking). Prep for behaviroal questions related to teamwork, problem solving, crisis management. Prep a good sales pitch (ie tell me about urself). U should be good.

Oh, and be confident. Tell us how it goes.

Its a tech job just show up and ans questions...as long as ur not totally retarded u'll get the job

I've always went in full suit with a grey shirt and tie to all my interviews. I think since it's for an entry level, you've probably already beat out a bunch of other resumes since they've actually called you in. More likely than not, it'll just be the standard questions like tell me about yourself; talk about education, goals, interests that can be related back to pharmacy. Availability is also going to be part of the interview since I assume you're a student.

Hardest non technical questions that I've ever encountered during my career path:

1) Name 3 of your biggest weakness. Make sure you can turn them into strengths ie. don't say you suck at math.

2) Whatever scenario they throw at you, most likely the correct answer will be you'll ask your supervisor for help.

3) Define integrity and give a situation in your life where you demonstrated it. Good luck with that one!

Wait...you're "aspiring to get into the field". So you're not even in pharmacy school yet. What is the position that they're offering? Are you getting paid? There's a significant difference in the advice we give you depending on whether you're going in as a volunteer or a paid employee.

untrue. If 2 guys showed up for a job interview for me, one guy in a button up shirt and shiney shoes and the other in work boots with his lunch kit, id tell the guy in work boots to tell the other guy to get the fuck off my jobsite and come back when he wants to work.

yes but you need tech schooling to be a tech

not any guy/gal off the street can just go into a pharmacy and count pills

Werd. If two chicks showed up for a job interview for me, one chick in a button up shirt and shiny pumps and the other in runners, wearing a chastity belt, id tell the chick with the pumps to tell the other chick to get the fuck out of my peeler bar and come back when she wants to work. :p

I don't know where you're getting this info, but when I was doing my BSc, I was working at a pharm as a pharm tech... you do not need specific tech school, they were satisfied with me being in the process of getting a BSc lol.
