And while we're on the subject, where can I get a proper hardcore wok burner locally?

Chinatown -- basically all of the cooking supplies stores sell those. Otherwise try Russell Food Equipment as they supply restaurants etc and can definitely sort you out.

My dad got one of those up near 49th in the Indian section (Main or Victoria? Cant recall).

The major thing you have to remember is get a wok with a flat bottom. If you don't have the correct burner it will roll around and drive you crazy.

ming wo is over priced, if u just want a regular wok then go to any chinese store that will do the job but just remember what murdoc said & take a look at your burner cuz if u got the wrong one u might have to buy stabilizer (not sure if thats what u call it) which is something that keep it from rolling round & all foods cook evenly (a lot of chinese i know have that, but i got a flat one)

I think it depends on how much BTU you're looking at. While I don't know the exact restrictions in BC, I do know one exists such that gas stoves over a certain BTU can't be legally used in the household.
No idea about the commercial sales of burners though, because I understand it works a little different for restaurants.

Well, I don't want to be using my burner in my house.
My current exhaust hood can't even handle that much heat output.
It'll be for my backyard stirfry station.

This is the brand I was looking at:

Except it's in taiwan, and I can't read chinese.

Good idea using a burner like that for your wok. I have one for my turkey deep fryer and my stove can't get hot enough. I'm so going to use that next time.
