Anyone who has a Telus Desire, does it have "Telus" plastered all over it? Just out of curiosity.....

hongy 11-01-2010 06:35 PM

No it does not, in fact the only time I saw the world "telus" was in the Scene selection and it is the default homepage on the browser all of which can be changed.

Good good. Throwing offers at clist sellers right now. The Captivate is the smallest of the Galaxy S series, and apparently feels the most solid as well. Right now it's come down to the Desire and Captivate. I'm a bit more inclined to go with the Desire for it's size, but the Captivate for it's CPU. The Samsung looks like it's better equipped to run newer versions of Android in the future.

i'm looking at either the desire or captivate too, but from what i've read the captivate is getting released soon (by Rogers?/Bell?) so there should be a fresh "batch" of them on CL/revscene with a relatively low price too?

BNIB captivate from Rogers? http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rd...037526300.html

Tempted to buy from Ebay though, will the AT&T unlocked ones still work?

Captivate is on Rogers. Vibrant is on Bell and Fascinate will be on Telus.

AT&T ones are a no-go, as you will have to go through a huge mess just to be able to install apps via usb

Tim Budong 11-02-2010 01:18 AM

The hummingbird processor on the Galaxy Line is only slightly better
The GalaxyS has slight issues on their rom, which can be fixed

The Desire's snapdragon can be overclocked...
SENSE UI>GalaxyS

but i stopped using senseUI

illicitstylz 11-02-2010 02:19 AM

so it'd be the HTC desire then?

falcon 11-02-2010 07:17 AM

Well I think that's helped make my decision. I'm going to call Telus today and see if they want to play ball and give me a good plan that is comparable to the one I was offered at Bell. I Just wish the Desire was out in white already.

wow speak of the devil, 10 hours later and OS6 gets released, trying it out right now on my 9700 ;)

Ok so here is what I'm in the process of doing. I got a wicked deal on a plan first of all with bell (a plus here since it's HSPA+)

250mins
500mb
unlimited txts in/out
my 10 canada wide including txts and pic txts
Eve 6pm-8am and free weekend calling
$50
Caller ID $7
V-mail $5.

All in $62/mo. I think that's pretty damn good considering.

So now here is my delima. Should I opt in for a Iphone 4 and just sell it to pay for a Deisre? What is a realistic price for a "quick sale" for a BNIB Iphone 4? I don't even need to make money one it... I'd be happy if it just covered enough for a new Desire.

I'm in the market for a new phone. BB is out of the running. Aside from BBM, there is no reason for me to own one and I don't really like the phones all that much. So for a while it was between BB and Iphone4. But now thinking about it, since Iphone dosen't have BBM, there is no reason to be set solely on one now. It dosen't really do anything "special" other than feel nice in the hand, and have a great screen and camera.

And then I discovered Android. These phones are cool. But they have one downside... they're all so F'ing BIG and feel cheap.

I went to look at Bell's Galaxy S Vibrant yesterday, and it's wicked cool... but too big... and felt like a chunky, light piece of plastic in my hand. I don't need a screen that large and I need something that fits in my pocket a bit better. Sure, it's thin... but it's too large.

What other phones are in the 1ghz processor speed area, and maybe feel a bit more solid and still have a SAMOLED screen? I'd like to try a Nexus One, but the trackball really turns me off. If that phone didn't have a trackball it would be the winner in my book.

I'm going to be staying with Bell, and they're only "cool" option is the Galaxy S. But I'm OK with buying a phone off contract and cracking it to work on Bell. Hell... I'll go buy a Galaxy S on contract because they're so cheap and just sell it and replace it with what I want.

So, opinions? Is Android as cracked up as everyone makes it to be?

Basically it goes like this:

Are you a die-hard apple fanboy?
Do you wear glasses without lenses in them?
Do you wear a desert scarf?
Are your jeans way too tight?

If you answered yes to any (or all) of those, then get an iphone.

Otherwise, get an Android.

falcon 11-02-2010 08:11 PM

So here is a question. Can I go to Bell (or any other network)... bring them a phone I am currently using and have them activate their SIM card to my current phone so I can keep the Iphone a "virgin" so to speak?

Did that make sense?

Tim Budong 11-02-2010 08:28 PM

ur plan is essentially a plan for any customer that walks into a telus/bell/rogers

falcon 11-02-2010 08:42 PM

ya I figured... i just looked into it and it looks like its a student plan.

After researching netoworks right now I may try to get on with Rogers. While they may not be the fastest right now... they still have the GSM network to fall back on if there is no HSPA. Whereas Bell/Telus rely soley on HSPA and if there isn't any covereage, you're SOL.
