Android VS. IPhone So, I'm sure there is another thread out there but I couldn't seem to find it. I'm in the market for a new phone. BB is out of the running. Aside from BBM, there is no reason for me to own one and I don't really like the phones all that much. So for a while it was between BB and Iphone4. But now thinking about it, since Iphone dosen't have BBM, there is no reason to be set solely on one now. It dosen't really do anything "special" other than feel nice in the hand, and have a great screen and camera. And then I discovered Android. These phones are cool. But they have one downside... they're all so F'ing BIG and feel cheap. I went to look at Bell's Galaxy S Vibrant yesterday, and it's wicked cool... but too big... and felt like a chunky, light piece of plastic in my hand. I don't need a screen that large and I need something that fits in my pocket a bit better. Sure, it's thin... but it's too large. What other phones are in the 1ghz processor speed area, and maybe feel a bit more solid and still have a SAMOLED screen? I'd like to try a Nexus One, but the trackball really turns me off. If that phone didn't have a trackball it would be the winner in my book. I'm going to be staying with Bell, and they're only "cool" option is the Galaxy S. But I'm OK with buying a phone off contract and cracking it to work on Bell. Hell... I'll go buy a Galaxy S on contract because they're so cheap and just sell it and replace it with what I want. So, opinions? Is Android as cracked up as everyone makes it to be? |
HTC Desire. Not a bad price if you look on craigs and pretty sharp graphics when I tried out my friend's. The feel isn't as bad as some other android phones, not iphone solid but acceptable for sure |
Nov 3rd bell releasing htc desire z. I am 90% sure as of now that ill be picking it up. But its got this slide/fold out qwerty keyboard, so not sure if you would like that. Also "only" a 800 Ghz processor.. Posted via RS Mobile |
You won't find a SAMOLED screen on anything other than a samsung galaxy phone at the moment Posted via RS Mobile |
I work for a cell phone dealer and if my office didn't pay for my blackberry for business reasons (the managers utilize blackberry messenger heavily in my company), I would hands down, by and far have an Andriod phone, either the Desire, or the Milestone and would stay the hell away from the IPhones. |
The only reason I see by going with iPhone is if you are actually willing to pay for all the apps. The apps store on iPhone side is awesome, but then again they charge you down to a fart-sound making app. The android is more capable in a sense that it provides less restriction on its apps so you can get apps (most of times for free) that actually increase your productivity substantially. I had been with iPhone since the first gen became unlockable, then when I got the Nexus One, I know unless Apple eases the policy on its app store, its phone division will never see another dime from me (admittedly I did purchase the iPhone4, but that's to resell for money... :D ) |
You will like android if u like the customization of the OS. Its all open source so help is everywhere. The GalaxyS has bugs in the software. Go with HTCdesire. Since its the nexusone preloaded with HTC sense UI. The desireZ looks great tho, and will be picking one up when it is released on bell. Posted via RS Mobile |
I've been reading a few threads here the past hour, and the Desire looks pretty neat. I still like the Samsung Galaxy line, but IMO it's too big for me. I'm going to head out today to a mall and go check them out in person. It all comes down to the feel in your hand I guess... Can the HTC Desire be flashed to remove the Sense UI? And is Froyo out for it yet? I'm sure a quick google search will tell me, I guess I'll go look. |
^You can just turn it off sense if you don't like it :/. personally i think the widgets and apps sense provides are a lot better then what you will find on the market, but that's just me. And Froyo update just came out for the telus version i think. Btw, since you're on Bell, you might wanna wait for the desire z coming out in a few days. Better than desire imo since it has a qwerty keyboard ;). |

i've already waited so long for OS6, going to wait it out a bit more for it to be on my 9700 and trying it before indefinitely jumping ship. |

or somehow get my hands on a G2... I can root the G2 already, cant with the HTC, even though its the same phone, it has a different bootloader i think |
I just checked out the Desire at Telus today. I really like it.. .just one downside. It's with Telus. And I swore to myself I would never go back to them. The Desire Z looks cool, but I bet the weight and thickness is going to be more because of the keyboard. And I don't really need one or care for one. FML. Why can't Bell have the Evo or something cool like that. There are rumors the Nexus Two is going to be released on the 8th. Maybe i'll wait to see how that goes. |
Falcon buy a telus desire from craigslist and unlock it. It costs $15 to unlock it, if you don't want to do that then wait for the desire Z. I'm getting one from bell when it comes out for my sister and I can compare the two (I have a desire) if you'd like. |

WOWZERS! ONLY 800Ghz?! I wish my phone had a 800Ghz CPU ;) |
HTC Desire is your best bet. It's not amoled but it's superlcd which is pretty decent still. I think most of us who have the Desire on RS aren't even with Telus lol. The Nexus Two is basically a Galaxy S. |
galaxy S ftw! but it's kinda annoying when I am showing it off to iphone users and 2.1 crashes or freeze up... lol |
i was introduced to android a few months ago, and i love it!!! widgets and custom roms ftw! |

I don't think I'd like the Desire Z, for the amount of times I would need a QWERTY keyboard I am not willing to take the hit on phone thickness and weight. I want a white Desire. Anyone know if they are available for the mass market yet? I may go with Bell, get an Iphone 4 and sell it to pay for an Android phone. Is there any way I can get an Iphone 4 from Bell and NOT have them open up the box? As in just give me the SIM and a sealed box and call it a day? OR will they want to to the install at a store? |
