~$200-$250 point & shoot camera recommendations?

My Canon SD300's lens motor just jammed after 6 years and 1000's of pictures, so I will need to get a replacement.

I'd love to get something like an S95 but my wife is pretty hard on electronics (She throws them around, drops them, etc) so I need something cheaper so I won't feel so bad if she breaks it. Plus I can get myself a more expensive camera later.

What do you guys recommend?

If you liked your Canon SD series camera, then just get another one. They're so cheap these days. And I find even their basic models have probably the best picture quality out of all cameras. I bought myself an Olympus 6000 waterproof/shockproof camera, but the picture quality in low light isn't the best. So if she doesn't care about that, then get her either an Olympus or Panasonic (one of their shockproof cameras).

You may wanna check this out: http://www.bccamera.com/index.php?ma...oducts_id=4398

You won't feel bad if she smashes this one to pieces lol

Just get another canon; that way you dont have to buy an additional type of memory card.

I bought my parents an SD1200IS and it has surprisingly good image quality, so I assume the SD1300IS would be no different. It's a small, simple camera to use. The only bad thing for me is that the camera will not write RAW format, but that's to be expected. My parents could not care less.

Just keep in mind that sticking to a model lineup is NOT always consistent, especially with Canon. It makes sense that the SD1300IS would be no different from the 1200, but that may or may not be the case. Check some reviews with samples to make sure.

I can't remember the models, but my friend went from something like a 900 to 980 (or whatever) and the newer one was crap.

I had the same issue with a Casio camera.. the first one was fantastic, but it got wet so I had to buy a new one. I figured the newer model would be better, but it was crap.

Not saying that this is for sure the case, just that it's worth investigating first instead of relying on model numbers being the same.

Sometimes exact models are manufactured differently (IE some made in Japan, some made in China).

I've played with an SD1300IS at a trade show, and the IQ looked great, but I didn't put my own SD card in it to compare images with an SD1200IS. Most recent cameras will not have worse IQ than the model they replace - the Fuji F300EXR is a glaring exception.

Ah I found out, it was an SD980 he bought, it was horrible compared to his SD960

Most of the time it's fine, but always check.

I bought the SD1200is, and wasn't too thrilled. I got rid of it immediately. It's no S95 or G11 in terms of IQ. I could've sworn my old SD750 had better IQ than the SD1200. The SD1200 also has no timelapse or color swap function.

That's because my parents' needs are much simpler than yours. It had the best ease of use to IQ ratio of any P&S camera at the time. I should reiterate that it had the best IQ of any camera in its price range that I could find.
