Miata: The Answer to Every Question

What's the best first car? What is the safest car? What car is best for the environment? What car is the best in an autocross? What is the best commuter car? What is best in the snow? Miata. Miata. Miata. Miata. Miata.

(the article is all tongue in cheek, obviously)

After sat in and drove a few times in a both NA in 1.6s and 1.8s, I still don't like it and will take my MK1 MR2 any day. :p

Mr.Jay 11-05-2010 12:47 PM

monster miata anyone?

http://monstermiata.webs.com/

I've always wanted to drive one and see how the V8 effects the balance of the car

bloodmack 11-05-2010 12:49 PM

miatas are good cars and all, but I'd only ever keep one for the track

jasonturbo 11-05-2010 12:55 PM

"You're a gay hair dresser, what kind of car will relfect this best?"

Sorry I'm an s2k owner and an ex-owner of an MR2, and I have to disagree. It's not about the power, it was never about the power. It's how the car feels like it's a natural extension of you like no other car ever could. It's about how the shifter falls right into your hand like they'd tailor made the car for you, and how the pedals are placed down to the millimeter for quick and easy footwork, how the steering wheel is perfectly positioned, sized and weighted. It's about how you can place your shots through the apex, and point the car out every exit with the kind of razor sharp precision that you could only dream to with anything short of a sport bike or an open wheeled race car. Whether we're talking about the NA, NB, or NC, Mazda got it right every time.

Anyway you drive a Honda, you're not allowed to call anything gutless. ;)

Wow calm down lol.

Honestly, I was pretty close to getting one - I came across a great deal on a white '06 GS (6spd/LSD) and sometimes I still kick myself for not snapping it up. But I think ultimately, it was when my friend gave me a ride in his s2k and I was slapped across the face with VTEC that I said fuck it, I have to have one. Hahaha.

edit: Plus there's the shift feel. No other car feels so direct and mechanical. This probably doesn't matter to anyone else, but it's a make-or-break for me.

+1. That tight, sharp "snick" as you shift into gear in the miatas is just such a nice feeling.

Mugen EvOlutioN 11-05-2010 03:29 PM

s2ks gearbox aint exactly sloppy either

RabidRat 11-05-2010 03:48 PM

Uh oh. Sorry sonick I was actually talking about the s2k and was citing it as one of the reasons I ended up with one =p. But the miata is definitely a close second imo.

Hondaracer 11-05-2010 03:52 PM

lol ive driven a few miata's and every civic i've driven has more feel jamming through gears than the miata's i have, they feel like you dont even need the clutch to slip it in

I am calm, it just didn't make sense to me.

If you really thought the miata was better you would/should have gotten one - it doesn't make much sense to me that you'd spend more money on an inferior car (s2k) when you could've gotten the better one (miata) for less. The two are such close substitutes that if you chose the s2k, you must think it's the better car.

I was in a similar situation to yours and in the end I got an s2k. Why? Compared to the miata, it's the complete package. For me, it's simple: great timeless design, great motor, great shifter, excellent driving experience. Miatas simply tear up corners but what happens when you're on a highway and want to hit vtak? You can't lol.

Mugen EvOlutioN 11-05-2010 06:17 PM

140-150hp really doesnt get you.....very far

AWDTurboLuvr 11-05-2010 06:25 PM

It'd be really hard for me to pick between a Miata/S2000. I love the power delivery, solid shifter linkage and the classic styling of the S2000, but the Miata has better steering feel and massive racing support, along with plentiful and affordable replacement parts.

I think at some point I would have to own each of them, at one time or another.

I certainly wouldn't kick a Miata Super20 outta bed though.

Cmon s2k look so much better than Miata. S2k with ASM kit= sex. mMiata look like is for typical 30-40 year old autox pal. Cough cough, I prefer Honda vtec ricer revving fart can crowd better
