car died, need recessitation!!!! i have a 1997 acura 3.0cl and its having a hard time all of a sudden starting. It turns over but putters until it shuts off, almost a second after it starts. the first 3 times i tryed starting my car it stayed on for about 3-4 seconds and then turned off, when i pressed the accelerator it immediatly shut off. i have tried starting the car a total of about 7 times and it turns over and starts but virtually shuts off right away though. Any suggestions, electrical, fuel pump, any sort of tactics i could try. i had it towed to my place so i need to get it running asap without spending an arm and a leg. this happen to me at about 10pm thursday night. Thank you |
gas or electric? Get a code reader you can probably read some of the codes. The more you try to turn over the more damage you might cause. |
weird thing, the next morning (today) the car turned over and worked as it normally would. i went to squamish and back no problems. This is making me think its not a fuel pump but a vacuum or electrical problem. Any sort of specific area to look into so this dont happen say up the mountain or something |
im still concerned about this occurance. any one have similar problems or have a possible solution, idea... |
Main relay...try it out. |
My guess would be vacuum leak or electrical related possibly a faulty MAF. |
where is the main relay do you know? and what is a faulty MAF. The car works fine as we speak. This is weird.. i dont want to be stranded else where this winter cause im going to kelowna. |
If you don't know what these simple terms are, it's better off that you find someone who does (aka, a mechanic or a good friend). |

i say main relay as well |
Sounds like a faulty Mass Air Flow Sensor, dont know much about honda so it might be a Map sensor as posted above. |
I bet it's the fuel pump. Sounds like it is about to kick the bucket. Next time it has a hard time starting smash the gas tank with your palm where the fuel pimp is located under the car while someone is trying to start the car. If it was a relay it wouldn't all of a sudden run. |
He could rule out a bad fuel pump by hearing the fuel pump prime when ignition is turned on. Don't think its' the fuel pump though. |
Sounds like a Distributor problem like the one I had not too long ago. Same symptoms as your car, replaced the Distrubutor cap and worked fine after |
It was the ignition; the contacts were melted and did not have proper contact. I hope this may help someone else in the future. |
Did it take you almost 2 years to sort the problem out? :troll: |
i would check the dissy. just replace the cap ive had this happen on old hondas most likely just got some water in there. |
^ he just said he fixed it 2 posts ago...... |
