Mr. Postman put my neighbours letter into my mail box so many times! WTF !!

This problem has been bothering me for a few years...

5% of the letter must gone wrong that my neighbour's letter went into my mailbox... and often I have to walk a few hundred meters away and put them back into the correct mailbox

If I leave the letter back in the mailbox, will Mr. Postman take it back ??

If you leave mail in your mailbox the mail man will just think your away or haven't picked up your mail yet, leave a note telling him to do his job or call the postal service and complain.

same shit kept happening to my house this summer.
they would kept stuffing the same house's mail into mine

ie: i lived on 2344 W 28th Ave...they kept stuffing the mails from 2344 W26th Ave. I got them to complain to postal office and it finally stopped. Does 8 really look like a 6? It's not like they deliver it super earlier either...it comes around at 10am.

You can file a formal complaint to Canada Post. We had a delinquent postman/ who kept on shoving other peoples mail into our mailbox for 4 months straight.

Yes. 4.

My parents filed a complaint and an investigation took place. Problem was resolved in 3 days. We never saw the same postman ever again.

Leave a note in your box describing your concern and most likely the mail carrier will make the effort to make sure you mail doesnt get mis delivered.

I am a letter carrier for Canada Post. You have to keep in mind that we have anywhere between 300-700 customers we serve daily. When we have 2-2.5hrs to prep mail for up to 700 clients, there is a chance for error. We would prefer to have zero errors, but unforunately that isnt possible. Mistakes do happen.

If you do receive the wrong mail, just leave it sticking out of your mailbox and your mail carrier will know what to do with it. There is no need to write "wrong address, or delivered to wrong address." Just leave it in the mail box and they will take it. If you wish to leave a comment on the mail bc you feel the need to make the mail carrier away they messed up, do it on a post-it not at least and dont write all over the envelope.

tripman- i dont know where you get the idea that we work for 2-3 hrs and get paid for 8? If that was the case, everyone would be jumping on the postie band wagon. mail prep time is roughly 2.5hrs, plus a 4hr delivery allocation, plus 30min lunch and 2 15 min breaks, that adds up to a 7.5hr day. If you are able to get done early, thats a bonus, but ppl that hammer out their delivery are also the ones that usually have bad backs, knees, shoulders, wrists and are generally just plain broken. Is it worth it? Not to me, but maybe it is to the ppl you know. The flip side to that coin is if you are slow in your prep or slow in your delivery, your mail still needs to get delivered, regardless of how long it takes you. So it doent matter if you are out there for 4-6-8 hrs walking around, it has to get done.

It's not as bad as my cousin who lives in a duplex, often times the mail goes to his neighbour because they are the ones who have the front door by the street, and his neighbour comes to complain/bitch at my cousin asking why his mail is going into his mailbox. Understanding of postal system :faceplam:

satek 11-13-2010 10:53 PM

My mailman has been doing that for years....my dad talked to him and he's still screwing up.

ikki 11-14-2010 12:00 AM

ya.. it happened on me and my neighbor

the postman always mix up our letters .. because we have same house number, but just 1 block street difference.

I hope they make sure that they put the letters into the right mailbox next time!

vapour_lock 11-14-2010 12:17 AM

sounds like your neighbor should be complaining not you. keep their mail, its not your job to deliver mail. amirite?

What if the mail you are holding onto is an important letter? A notification of a loved one's death or illness, perhaps. Plus, I think it is kind of illegal to knowingly keep someone else's mail. It punishes the neighbour, not the postal worker. Just saying..........

Super Dipper, you're not the guy who bends my mail, are you? I order stamps from Canada Post because I'm a stamp collector. The hard cardboard envelopes they come in say, "DO NOT BEND," yet it gets crammed into my mailbox bent right down the middle. I'm sure you've seen the white envelopes that come from Canada Post. Is it the letter carrier that does this or the folks who sort the letters at the facility?

I spent $350 on a skookum, locking mailbox to ensure the envelopes stay dry and flat. The opening has a lid over the slot which is big enough for most of those envelopes. I don't mind my magazines being bent, but those precious stamps, some of which are rare and expensive, wow. Who do I shoot?

BTW, I have the utmost respect for you guys and what you do................

Im a carrier in Victoria, so unless you live on the island, chances are i dont deliver your mail. :)

I cant speak for everyone but MOST carriers will make the effort to keep large legal sized envelopes flat and secure, especically when they are marked "do not bend" It can be hard though when if the carrier delivering your mail is on foot opposed to a driver. a carrier that delivers via mail truck should be able to keep your packets flat. If he cant, he is either ignorant to the fact, or doesnt care.

If you are a collector and have spent the time, money and effort to ensure your packages can be delivered safe without being damaged, call the 1-800 number and file a complaint. The calls you folks make, dont get shelved. They will go the appropriate stations and the supervisors will discuss the issue with the letter carrier and efforts will be made to sort the issue out. If it keeps happening, keep calling. Eventually it will get to the point where the bosses will take a closer look and see if their is an issue with the letter carrier.

LOL!

Well, it's not that we were out to make sure he got fired or anything. We left notes at our door for the postman to remind him we've been getting a lot of mail from other peoples homes (sometimes as far away as 4 blocks north and south!)

But the explanation we got from the supervisor was that the postman was new and he was put on this temporary route. Not really sure if that's the truth but ever since we filed a complaint, everything's been aye-okay. :)

hchang 11-14-2010 02:52 PM

This can be your chance to get back at your neighbour if his dog always shits on your lawn :lol

Just scribble "Wrong address, return to sender" on it and send it back out whenever you get the chance

Death2Theft 11-15-2010 07:25 AM

Happens to me too, when i personally deliver the mail to the right person and tell them about it.... they say oh yeah we know he does it all the time we arn't gonna rat him out cuz we feel sorry for him.... i'm like WTF?

geeknerd 11-16-2010 03:04 AM
