You can try to get one of the student plans. See if a store will hook you up.
If you get the unlimited network calling, that should cover you when making/getting calls from anyone on rogers or fido. That option saved me a lot of money for all the calls I made during the day.

I've been reading and hearing that a lot users can get this plan or similar easily through CSR including my buddy who just moved up to the IPhone 4 and renewed his contract. I don't know how easily you can get it since I'm not on Rogers but it was something like a $17.50 voice plan with 200 mins + 500mb data flex plan with taxes included it was just below $50/mo. It included CID, 2500 text, 6PM E/W, unlimited network calling, enhanced voicemail and a few other things. Some of the features were thrown in for free or discounted and it took little effort to get it.

If what I heard and read is true I'd keep calling into CSR until I got something similar.

The likelihood of you getting one of those retention plans will be much lower since you're switching providers. They'll probably treat you as a new customer.
