| Fender Bender Victim ran away
My GF's mom hit a car while she was backing out of a stall spot earlier today, when she was about to get out to get the guy's info the guy drives away. She doesn't have his license plate # or anything since he was parked sideways behind her, he probably got her LP# though. Is it likely that she is going to be accused of hit & run now?
All she knows is the other car is a mercedes. The damage to her own bumper was very minor and I think a cut polish will take care of it

Fact is, the other driver probably didn't even notice - if he does notice the damage later, he'll probably have no idea when or where it happened.
She should contact ICBC and fill them in, just in case (a "cover your own ass" move), but I wouldn't expect she'd ever hear about it again.

call ICBC anyway and report this accident and tell them you want to open a file just incase the other driver tried to accuse your GF's mom of hit and run?

But wouldn't the OP's GF's mom be at fault either way? Especially since she's backing out of a parking space?
Correct me if i'm wrong please.

Yeah she is at fault, I just don't want her to be accused of Hit & Run. The damage might have been very minor on the other car too though, I wasn't there.
The other car was parked there waiting for a C-Lai to get in and the C-Lai noticed it for sure.
Can we open an ICBC case and not go through with repairing the damage on her own car?

Correct me if i'm wrong please. | Being at fault for causing damage and leaving the scene is way worse than just doing the damage.

It'd be good for your gf's mom to just contact ICBC and let them know what happened.
Last summer I got a note left on my windshield saying I bumped into their car when I parallel parked. Contacted ICBC to let them know what was up, went in right away and took it in for a quick inspection. They saw there was no damage on my car and I think they said that the other party has 30 days from when I brought my car in, if they don't report it, they have no claim.

Yeah, to protect yourself from possible hit and run, report the incident anyways incase they decide to screw you over. More likely than not, the other party didn't even notice.

The only issue is that ICBC will have a record of your car's damage (even though it's minor) if you report. But I'd still report it just to make sure you don't get accused of hit & run.

i realize this is an old thread, but just to chime in my 2 cents.....my mother hit a vehicle and it was her fault..... the driver fled the seen who she hit. my mother contacted icbc and they found the driver as she got his plate # and turns out he didnt have insurance. icbc waived my moms deduct and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident...even though it was her fault. so call icbc for sure
