With my gf, we went
1 week (bought her a rose :lol )
1 month,
2 month,
6 month,
1 year,
then every year
then a really big one at 5 years.

Keep in mind it we started in high school.

It all comes down to the couple. The people in the relationship have different backgrounds and different wants than others. They may have had an issue with long term relationships so they wants to celebrate the anniversaries.

The monthly anniversary thing seems to be a high school thing, since most of those relationships may not last as long. People who are used to it may drag it out into their 20s.

I think it should be yearly, though it doesn't hurt to mention that you remembered that is it your anniversary once in awhile. Just a simple greeting like "hey we've been together for xx months" / "happy xx months" should be enough.

My gf and I went out on a date on our 1 month. Granted, neither of us cared or realized it was our 'one month anniversary'. We just both had a free day to go out together. If I remember correctly, I randomly remembered it was our one month and told her happy one month just before I threw it in 'er ;)
