In need of a van

My buddies are coming down from Calgary in January. We're all under 21 and can't rent a car (specifically I need a van..) is there anyway for me to get one other then buying one? I'm willing to pay money to "rent". I need it for 4 days or so only...

_Hotsauce_ 12-01-2010 02:37 AM

Do you have a credit card? Are you willing to take full legal responsibility if anything happens to the van?

El Bastardo 12-01-2010 02:38 AM

I remember being young and killing hookers with my friends too. Oh the memories

Sounds like you have a van. Pm me. And yes i do have credit card.. but i dont see how this will help. And since I'm "renting" a van, even if i was renting i believe I'm taking full legal responsibility either way so I am willing haha.

HAha, i think our "adventures" will consist of eating in Richmond, site seeing around Vancouver, and.. maybe a bar / club at most? LOL we're very boring and chill ppl :P
Killing hookers :P, knocking out peoples mail boxes with a baseball bat, pissing in public on the roof of some building, and loitering outside 7 11 like a wana be gangsta, that's all.. stuff i wish i did hahah!

vafanculo 12-01-2010 04:25 AM

There's one thing about promising to take responsibility, and another thing to actually BE legally responsible. For example, if after clubbing, some one drove home after a drink, and gets car impounded, the owner is on the hook, regardless of all the promises beforehand.

Vans are pretty cheap. Why not pool some money, buy one, and then sell it afterward

You can rent as long as you have credit card.

Then can you give an example of a car rental company that will rent to someone less than 21?

ilvtofu 12-01-2010 08:49 AM

Isn't there like an underage fee or am I thinking of the states?

rsx 12-01-2010 08:54 AM

Get a brother/sister family member to rent it for you

MERXUS 12-01-2010 09:24 AM

bang bus !! good times =)

dude you are pretty much screwed; i dont think anyone will rent a van to person under 21.. but good luck

MindBomber 12-01-2010 09:36 AM

Why are you asking strangers to help and not your mom and dad?

I rented a couple cars before turning 21 and I think all I needed to do was have my mom sign something and pay a small risk premium. Do you still your N?

doing some jb hunting i see...

Berzerker 12-01-2010 10:21 AM

Once you get the van PM and I'll let you know a good place for wholesale candy and cheap puppies....

Berz out.

freakshow 12-01-2010 11:07 AM

No sane person would rent their own van to a bunch of kids for a few days, so I suggest you look at the other suggestions here:
Ask family
Ask friends
Buy a cheap one on CL, then sell if after (might even be cheaper in the long run)

I think you have to be older than 21, and pay an underage fee for being under 25. Or that's what the major companies do anyways. You might find a Richmond rental place that are a little sketchy that don't follow these rules...

Don't do this, really bad idea unless the person will be with you ALL THE TIME. If you crash, and they are not there, there is a bucketload of legal problems going to crash down on you.

I've rented cars when I was 18, 19 etc.

Mind you, these were times when I needed a rental while my car was getting fixed, but they were from regular rental agency. The one I used was Avis.

ilvtofu 12-01-2010 03:13 PM

Lol for 4 days you could probably get away with buying a shitbox old caravan and sell it for the same/more than you bought it for, If it was one day I guess different story, people might be looking for winter beaters this time of year anyways

u can only do that if your 21+ ... and i did ask my mom and dad. Both of them were against me borrowing a van from family friends.. and they refuse to help in anyway since they are somewhat against my friends coming down from Calgary. Cause originally it was only 3 friends which i can do for rides since i have a car, now it turns out to be 6.. ==''. And yes I have my full class 5 since 08.

Very very true, if I saw a post with someone asking for a van i would laught at them and tell them GL and troll. But I'm jsut trying my luck here, maybe someone is crazy enough :P
Family refuse to do anything
most of my friends dont have cars, or they are using family's car or their cars are just 2 seaters. Again I dont want to borrow any friends cars, cause 1 IF anything does happen.. you and your friend might argue and what not.. so I rather not hurt the friendship in borrowing the car.

CL might be the best option right now.. but reselling would be a BITCH. And i honestly have far to much stuff on my plate to stick around and try to sell a shitty van :P

How much is your van ><'''

tiger_handheld 12-01-2010 03:25 PM

how much u willing to pay?

Benz_05TSX 12-01-2010 03:36 PM

How much you got?? I got 2 vans... depending how much you are willing to pay :) It's my winter beater anyways..

genesis195 12-01-2010 03:41 PM

I'm willing to pay the same as what I would have to pay in renting a van from a actual renting company.. so 200 ish? loll and if u want premium on that make it 400 or so?
