If the things (facts) I've said arent true, please feel free to correct them. Saying things like the gaslamp district is "about 20 times better than yaletown" and free of douchebaggery is laughable, and not exactly factual/objective. |

The post is akin to someone posting a nice vid of the Gold Medal game, then some Canadian-expat living in China talking about how "there are 10 different countries that are better to live in that Canada." What the hell? Just appreciate the vid for what it is and be happy you moved out of Vancouver. No need to state your opinion unless someone asks what are some better options to live in than Vancouver. |
he was clearly replying to the 2nd post. |

Apparently, the cities in the States don't really have many things to do, except work, home, work, home, and more work. Shops close at 7 and all you really can do is drink beer until you pass out at somebody's place. Cdn dollar was cheap back then, food is always good, and a lot of places open till very late in the downtown area, very centralized (for Asians, they hang out in Richmond or Burnaby) that's why they are happy to spend their money here. How about asking them to be a Canadian? The reaction is like "Fuck Why?" Go check out the American forums and read the negative comments on their northern neighbor. "Canadian live in an igloo, they eat beavers everyday..." Just like my uncle who lives in LA, he always says how much he loves to live in Vancouver, but only when he retires and his medical insurance won't cover him anymore. Another thing they hate is our tax system, so making a living here is not favorable for them. |
This is such a stupid thing to argue over. Of course Vancouver is an awesome place. Good enough to have the Olympics, Vancouver has been a top 5 city to live for countless years now with many of them being at number 1 or 2, pretty much every person I tell that I am from Vancouver comment on what a beautiful city it is, and even though it does have some bad things(what city doesn't) in my opinion the good out weigh the bad. With that being said it really is a matter of opinion in terms of the people on this board. I lived in the states for 2 years then back to Vancouver for 6 months and now been living in Asia for about 3 years. I personally love being in Asia and have no plans to move back home. There are obvious comforts that I miss from back home but again the good here out weighs the bad. |
If you don't like Vancouver: 1) Move. Find a better city that suits your needs. Your feet are not nailed to the floor. 2) "There are a lot of cities that are better". Please refer to #1 3) Social problems are rampant, nightlife sucks, housing is way too expensive, our government is a piece of shit, traffic is gay, there is no Starbucks on my block but sadly I cannot and will not do anything about any of the aforementioned issues because I like to whine about them because I can. Please refer to #1. 4) If somebody has an opinion that Vancouver is the best city on earth then just leave them be. They probably have a good job and lots of great opportunities here. You have every right to disagree with them but if you do, please refer to #1. Vancouver is not perfect in any way. We do need help in a lot of different ways to help make our city an even better place to live, work and play. You can either be part of the solution or part of the problem. Whining about it here is not going to help put a Starbucks on your block. |
Traffic is gay in Vancouver? Unless you live right above / across where you work, I'd say spending > an hr everyday on the road is reasonable in any city in North America. |
