Vancouver is fucking awesome!! Seriously, fucking awesome!!!

Anyone who doesn't agree needs to travel more so they can realize how great Vancouver is when they come home.

Lomac 12-04-2010 09:30 AM

I can easily think of a dozen cities I'd rather live in than Vancouver... :p

what shitty places have you been travelling to?

vnacouver's a good city - but terribly run, corrupt as hell (yes tehre are more corrupts cities, and all government has a degree of BS associated with it)

but vancouver is a terrible place to have a career in, great place to live, if you have endless amounts of money / don't need to work... but if you're a normal person who wants to do the best for themselves, living elsewhere, somewhere less socialist would be better

You clearly are the one who needs to travel more.

I have been to countless cities in 22 different countries across 4 continents and Vancouver is one of the best cities I have been to.

This, I have to admit is true.
Vancouver is for the rich now.

You can not live in the city as a new a family. impossible.
it's become too rich. which is unfortunate because I wouldn't want to go anywhere else..

btw, to all the posters saying you'd rather live somewhere else, what places? and why? i'm just curious. because i've travelled a lot and vancouver seems to rank number 1. I've been to europe, russia, hong kong, mexico, states..

though, i haven't been to austrailia, and i heard it's nicer there?

tiger_handheld 12-04-2010 10:53 AM

whens the next party?

Sydney is really nice. I think the city itself is probably better than Vancouver but I am not a fan of the climate. Way too hot in the summer (30-40).

Right after game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals hopefully... and the good kind of party not 1994

woob 12-04-2010 11:35 AM

If I could pick another place to live, it would have to be Portland, OR.

Domani 12-04-2010 11:55 AM

man almost a year already...

FN-2199 12-04-2010 12:05 PM

I would tend to disagree on that comment.

I have traveled all over the world and I'm always happy to come back to Vancouver. Yes it is extremely expensive to live in, but its great mixture of diversity, great food, mountains, water and climate make it an absolutely great place to live.

I have quite a few friends/co-workers that have lived overseas for a good amount of time, but end up missing Vancouver.

Vancouver maybe isn't the best city for everyone, but it should rank high up there.

Integgyy 12-04-2010 01:31 PM

vancouver is a beautiful city, if you don't appreciate what this city has to offer than gtfo.

Absolutely. I mean I appreciate all the useless bike lanes, the terrible financial decisions of the Vancouver council both past and current, the inability for previous Vancouver mayors to allow a major highway through the city causing huge traffic congestion for the current population, the use of taxpayers money to reroof BC Place while at the same time denying a privately funded stadium to be built, critical mass, the majority of a population that will refuse to give you the time of the day if asked nor will even smile and thank you for keeping a door open for them, massive housing costs, terrible traffic jams even during non-rush hour, etc., etc.

Yes, there is beautiful scenery, great restaurants, and a decent amount of naturally attractive females... but in my mind the cons outweigh the pros.

wait what?! you WANT a major highway cutting through vancouver?? I think the fact that vancouver is the only city in NA that doesn't have freeways slicing it up is a reason for it being one of the best cities

I'll take backed up traffic in vancouver any day over uglyass freeways american-style.... plus no freeways is the only way a city can develop a good public transportation system cuz it forces people to use it (although Translink has obviously failed us all on that front)

thing is we'd not be able to afford another olympics for a LONG LONG time, the true cost will never be known, but trust me, we, as tax payers, are getting fucked by the government/major's office on this one

vancovuer is a great place, but you have to understand that its is not very liveable... maybe if you're ok living at home with mum & dad until 30, or if you have parents who will pay for your car, first house, and education... or you're into illegal activity (as our justice system is so lax)

i, for one, think san diego is a much better all round city, better economy (don't buy into the BS, i could get paid more down there and have more opportunities) - why don't i go down then? i will be... i have commitments up here for a while longer

vnacouver is great, but stop telling me its great, i'll decide that for myself as should all the rest of you, tell the government to stop telling us

bengy 12-04-2010 03:38 PM

Vancouver is so awesome, you can't afford to buy a house to live in without renting out your basement suite.

And to the beer goggle crew, there's way hotter chicks out East, in Montreal / Ottawa. They're way friendlier too ;)

yah but how would you know if you didn't hear about how much of a great place it really was? Of course you'll reserve judgment for when you actually live here for a bit.. That's what all the hype is about.

But yah. I hearing everyone talk about other places... I really need to travel more.
