Bright HID bulbs?

I've been using Xetronic 6000K D2S, and frankly they are not the brightest.

Can somebody point to me a brighter brand of D2S bulbs?

If not, I will simply put stock 4300K ones back in.

Higher kelvin does not mean more useful light output. I would use OEM 4300k.

Phillips 85122+ 4300k will have the best lumens output. What car is this?

FX35, bi-xenon. Stock is pretty good. I went with 6000K for the blue look, now I want more light back.

But I've seen *visually* brighter 6000Ks on the road, so obviously each brand of bulbs produce brighter / dimmer light. I was hoping maybe someone could advise a brighter brand than Xetronic.

Are you planning on owning one of those cars with disruptively bright, white lights?

Put the 4300k's back in, brighter bulbs won't give you more light on the road. I retro'd some FX-R's in a fozzy and the light output is more than enough with the stock 4300k's. You sure your bulb is seated correctly?

I think they are seated correctly. I can see a sharp, staight cut-off line, and high / low beams work perfectly fine. Just the light is dim.

I am going to put the stock 4300K back in.

if you want it bright, get 55W or 50W HIDs instead of 35W like conventional ones.

Also, PIAA makes "three stage ballast" that allows you to adjust from 25W-45W.

brighter from what view? poorly aimed lights could seem brighter from an oncoming stance. Lenses also affect the light distribution.

FX35 actually has projectors... so not like a fucking idiot putting HID's in a stock reflector housing and blinding everyone on the road.

People who do that to cars should have their hands cut off.

FX35 12-10-2010 11:33 AM

The PIAA D2S replacement is very expensive:

I am going back to stock. Thanks everyone for helping out.

!Aznboi128 12-10-2010 11:42 AM

Stock would be best. It's not easy to convert oem to 55w so I wouldn't suggest that.

The best you can do is 85122+

Also fx is a higher vehicle the light is spread out wider. If your comparing to civics with hid kit. Yes those kits are brighter as the beam is more focused giving a hot spot in the centre.

I'm running OE Philips D2S bulbs off an RX-8 @ 4300K, no problem in heavy rain, or anything, they light up the road well in my retro'd FX35 S50 projectors.

K = Kelvin = Temp, color really (not brightness)

3400-3800 is quite yellow and most people find this annoying (halogen stockies)
4300 is optimal (as per stock for most projectors using D2S)
6K is a bout right to get some blue into your lamp without sacrificing too much brightness
8K is fucking overboard already, losing alotta light output, and for that matter, you're pissing people off.
10K is when you start going purple, and losing like 50%+ light output
11-13K is PIAA style pure purple

MindBomber 12-10-2010 12:16 PM

If your running a garbage set-up with HIDs the stock reflector housing then you will never have good light output.

If you are driving a stock FX35 however, check out the osram D2S bulb Xenarc "cool blue intense" its a new and supposedly the best on the market. http://osram.com/osram_com/News/Trad...e_Intense.html

godwin 12-10-2010 12:29 PM

You want your FX35 to throw more light, you need a new car. The lens on projectors on the FX series are relatively small. The bulbs are not the problem, it is the diameter of the lens. I would say the latest BMW, Volvo, Porsche and RR SUVs have the largest projectors out there.

For 55W HID, you will also need to replace the ballasts to be absolutely reliable; since the amp draw of HID is low, you need the new ballast to truly compensate.

I swear, I was just trying to tell the OP to install retro-fit projectors since that would improve the light output by focusing the bulb if there in reflector housings. Guess my hatred of HIDs bleed through lol

Edit: didn't look at the OPs username lol

If you'd only realize that he doesn't need retrofit projectors...

nvm

Agree, after much research in the Retro fit world, most ppl would agree that the Phillips 85122 are the brightest bulbs

In some headlights, even tho they are projector, but their projector isn't made for Xenon HID use. if u put HID in those projectors.....it is still considered a garbage set up !

Best projectors are TSX Bi-Xenon and S2000 single beam, keep in mind also because of the Canadian Law, these projector lens are sanded, which means they arnt actually clear, but they make clean lens aftermarket so by swapping that u can achieve much better lighting and colour transformation !

TSX projectors (CL9) weren't bi-xenon. Low-beam only.

I would think LS430 bi-xenon projectors would be the best. I suppose they're too big for most applications.

Leopold Stotch 12-10-2010 10:01 PM

^ to add to that Infiniti M's have really nice projectors. as the housing for the projector emits light too.

i love the way it looks.

durrr my S50 FX35 projectors should be 2.5" last time i checked.... which is also on the larger size of bi-xenon lenses you can get...

godwin 12-10-2010 11:52 PM

That's why they are small.. last gen Hellas were already 3".. current gens are 4" if not larger.

Japanese are a few steps behind the Europeans when it comes to lighting and safety because their philosophy and priorities, eg JDM cars don't typically get to autobahn speeds.

You want the latest and best lighting, always go for the large volume European manufacturers.

Wow this discussion is getting out of control LOL.

I am going back to stock. FX35 has decent size projectors. Maybe I am just getting too tired of this riced up 6000K look.

It makes sense that smaller lenses *probably* project less light. But if that's the case, has anyone noticed that GT-R has REALLY small projector lenses? I didn't measure, but it appears to be 33% smaller than lenses found on typical G / FX / M / Z / Maxima

Now why is that?

And not to go off-topic, if GT-R is Nissan's halo car and for god's sake, commanding a $110,000 price tag, why does it still come with halogen DRLs? I stand to the corrected, but I could swear the yellow-ish reflector housing is meant to be halogen DRLs:
