opinion regarding computer fix

I performed a system recovery on my computer and I am now experiencing start up errors. Basically the computer won't load in safe mode/normal mode.

I can either go to Geek Squad $99 and have them fix it, or, I can go and buy a Windows7 OS and perform an 'upgrade'

Keeping in mind that I'm a noob with computers what do you guys suggest I do?

Thanks.

I would try putting the computer through system recovery again (given that you did it with a disc).

I can usually fix win XP startup issues... can give you some things to try if you're inclined to try and fix it yourself.

will require a windows XP install disc so you can get into the recovery console
