For those of you who don't know, employees are paid to just "look the other way" while a chip is put into the debit machine.
So for example... you can pay a McDonalds employee working at drive thru some cash to just look the other way while they do something to the debit machine.
For the next hour, the employee will have to tell all customers that the debit/credit machine is not working at the moment.
After the hour is up, the guy(s) will come back to fuck around with the machine again, and the job is done.
All cards used from this point on will be frauded.
There's minimal risk to the employee cause they won't know the exact date this happened, and companies only keep their camera tapes for so long.

I've never been scammed via debit/credit because #1 I pay for all food with cash #2 I pay for all grocery shopping in cash.

You're losing out on a lot of potential cashback and points there my friend.
Credit is the way to go. Zero liability if you are a victim of card theft, and you're technically using someone elses money for free (provided you never make a late payment).

my rules. never use debit to pay for anything. ever. its a direct line to your bank account. With Credit card, at least you have some protection.

I had this happen to me once and they cleared out chequing account... Didn't find out until about 10 days later when I tried to deposit my cheque. I got reimbursed by CIBC...
Never used my debit to pay for anything ever again.
The suspected locations of card-skimming are Fresh Slice Metrotown or Chubby Lamb Hot Pot in Richmond along Alexandra Rd. Heads up to you guys.

I had this happen before too took 1000 from me using debit but I got reimbursed...so its all good. IMO its better to pay with actual hard cash then with cards nowadays just to be on safer side...but credit cards good too since customer is never held liable so you always get reimbursed if anything bad happens...same with debit to some extent.

my debit card just got blocked yesterday by TD. Someone apparently tried to copy my card and PIN using one of those rigged machines, and tried to withdraw almost my entire account. Good thing TD has a lot of precautions set up and they realized the transaction didn't match my spending habits.

Every time I go to ATM, I cover the keypad with my left hand while entering the PIN with right hand.
