wow...theres 2 places that I know of and I visited there last month. LOL...
Luckily the problem is fixed...hehe hopefully!!

That last restaurant, Gourmet Castle...has foodborne illness outbreak scares the shxt outta me. I remember back in 2001-2002 when friends would go clubbing/late nite partying and would go there for food. YUCK...ate there once and never liked it.
Guess it was the only place opened late.

StylinRed 12-16-2010 06:19 AM

its nice to see why they were closed

some of the reasons dont seem THAT bad like lack of potable water
but some places.... sewage contamination, cockroach infestation? eww

Inaii 12-16-2010 06:23 AM

Lack of portable water I would think means they can't clean anything... Somehow I think that's just as gross =x

Potable water is water that is safe to consume. If they lack that, then that is a big deal.

StylinRed 12-16-2010 07:16 AM

^ was for a hot dog stand

edit: woaah Starbucks on W. Broadway "sewage contamination" & boston pizza on W. Broadway no hot water

El Bastardo 12-16-2010 07:59 AM

That Pho Hoa on W. 49th got shut down for a pest infestation. Surprise surprise surprise.

I think there was a thread on that place before about how disgusting it is.

It is surprising to see a Starbucks make the list tho

Alby 12-16-2010 08:26 AM

heh not surprised at all with some of the places closed down. during my school practicum, visited some of the places listed and they are repeating offenders. they fix it up so they past reinspection, but afterwards, things starts going downhill till the next inspection again.

twitchyzero 12-16-2010 09:15 AM

do they have the right to do random inspections? that will solve that problem.

asahai69 12-16-2010 09:15 AM

^ most of the inspections are random.

that coulda been caused by local construction or a building failure that screwed em up.

tool001 12-16-2010 09:51 AM

they should just post pass/fails at entrance of restaurants in addition to this website

Porschedog 12-16-2010 10:42 AM

I work in the building upstairs.. some dumbass tried flushing their kid's diaper down the toilet, causing it to overflow everywhere :crazy2:

gilly 12-16-2010 12:23 PM

i only see a few cities. So no restaurants were closed in burnaby?

daica-viet 12-16-2010 12:37 PM

wow japadog on that llist? now makes me think twice

drunkrussian 12-16-2010 03:36 PM

most restaurants have infestations. rats go where theres food ans warmth and they chew through things. inspections are totally random and if a place u like isnt on there its cause they didnt get to them yet or they dont have a problem YET. its just a matter of time

jqpqdog was on this list before (i remember lookig at las years and the years before). usually multiple japadog locations are on thr list and not just one like this year lol.

hot water means they cant clean shit, cant safely cook things and cant properly wash hands. that shit is all more dangerous and more preventable than an infestation imo.

ultimately no big deal. we have all eaten some shit in our lives and not gotten ill. its gross but our standards for "unsafe" are quite safe. imo rich chains like boston pizza with internal certification and processes for sanitation have no excuse tho for failing!!

Burnaby and others are under the Fraser Health Authority and not Vancouver Coastal Health.

subordinate 12-16-2010 07:21 PM

Whew....Glad i stopped going to Gourmet Castle.

That place has had numerous health infractions.

trip 12-16-2010 08:14 PM

as replied before by another member, inspections are random and unannounced as well. ideally, every food establishment is to be inspected every 6 months so you can guess about the time frame when a public health inspector will come.

actually, most restaurants do not have infestations, but in fact only pest control problems. a place not showing up on the list does not mean they will in the future. its just a matter if they keep the pests under control before it turns into an infestation.

hot water does not affect the safety of cooked foods; cooking temperature does.

when i was doing my practicum with vancouver coastal health, the food establishments that i had inspected actually have sanitation policies and cooking plans in place. its true that there is no excuse for failing if every employee were to stick to those policies and plans, but people just don't care enough and let things slide.

the funniest thing is when asking owners/cooks/employees about food safety and sanitation questions. they all get the answers right, then i ask if they know the answers, why are shit not being followed and done to prevent sanitation problems/food related problems. they are speechless afterwards.

the following website allows you to access some inspection reports currently done on facilities and you may also find some few history reports as well. great place to check before heading to restaurants.
