Incredible production and an incredible cast. Didn't really care for he British royalty and now I'm utterly fascinated by them.

Each episode is suppose to represent a decade and cover some significant historical events. Season 4 is going to introduce princess Diana. Cant wait to see how the series portray her life and her death
I've been following The Crown as well. I especially enjoyed the episode of the one about the landslide that destroyed the elementary school with children and teachers still in it, and how her delay in showing up to the site of disaster is her greatest regret in her duty as Queen to this day.

Dont F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer

Wife played it on in the background and i was pretty hooked, watched i believe 4 episodes all last night. It also has more appeal since it happened in Canada

The Witcher - 5/10 (at least the first 2 episodes). I couldn't get into it. I never read the book(s) and only watched Radbrad play the game. But goddamn, the story telling is almost juvenille. World building sucked, dialogue was elementary and the only decent actor is Cavill and the girl that looks like Kirsten Dunst.

I also have watched the first 2 episodes and I'm liking it so far. Just a good basic high concept fantasy, not expecting GoT or anything.

That's where I am at with Mandalorian too. Just a cool weekly episode "slice of life" of the Star Wars universe, told through some likeable characters. It could have been so much worse!

I agree.

Funny thing is I played all the games, going back to Witcher 1 and 2 on the PC, and the 3rd on PS.

Funny thing is, the dialog in this show almost sounds exactly like the game. I give credit to the writers, Cavill plays Gerralt perfectly, especially in terms of the dialog.

But that's the problem here. Video game dialog is just that, video game dialog, the expectation is never to be of the same quality of an actual show.

I'm finding this show feels like I'm watching clips from the video game itself, thus that juvenile feeling to the dialog.

Only watch 1 episode thus far, and it isn't gripping me at all.

I’m 5 episodes in and I definitely feel like the first couple of episodes were pretty weak, but it gets quite a bit better as the series continues.

My SO is having difficulty keeping up with the timelines.

Edit: Finished the season. Episodes 1, 2, and 8 were meh. 3-7 were quite solid, IMO. I'd say my biggest gripe is that Triss is basically a bit part and she doesn't look much like her in-game counterpart.

Never played any of the Witcher games, but I enjoyed the series and give it a solid 7.

In some ways, I'm glad I looked at several reviews beforehand which negatively commented about the choppiness of the timeline. Otherwise, I'd likely be confused.

Amazon: James May: Our Man In Japan

Just hilarious, had me and my wife howling with laughter at times. She never knew about May before, so that shows just how good he is as a presenter. Just a perfect foil for whacky escapades in Japan.

Uncut Gems

Mixed feelings about this one... The way it was shot, directed, acted, scored, all was just amazing.

But man, the main character, I can't think of many movies where I've hated the main character more. And it makes me hate all the other characters too, because any normal person wouldn't want to be near him for more than 5 seconds, but they do because they all want something out of him. Practically everyone in this movie is a greedy piece of shit, looking out for themselves.

So while it was great in a cinematic sense, I just couldn't wait to see him finally get what's coming to him, and generally that's not something you want in a protagonist. Made it kind of annoying for me.

I think we agree on something.

the movie felt very "busy" to me. i didnt really know what the story or what the fuck was going on. just a lot of stereotypical new york type hustling plus the jew factor doesnt help the image.

a bit of the ways into the movie i kinda understood what was happening as my mind kinda got into the same rhythm as the main characters.

watching him leverage very bit of shit he has and just fucking thinking "bro this is going to go bad for him", some shit is gonna fuck up and its gonna tsunami crash down on his ass.

of course it does. the movie gives u the feeling of a bad bet. when youre sitting there fucking shaking your leg, hoping it turns around. hah.

lol yeah, i had the exact same feeling of "i wouldn't wanna hang around these guys for more than i have to". a buncha aggressive sleazy ass sharks.

That mistress though...

I watched this too, felt mixed about it at times but generally enjoyed it... I like James May and some parts were great and funny... a few bits here and there fell flat and the Haiku theme really fell on its face (at least for me) I wanted to fast forward anytime he brought that up. The train song conductor was quite an amazing little discovery and the train fanatics were a great, harmless example of some Japanese otaku.

I definitely did note down a few places he went and it was extra interesting for me because he followed pretty much the exact same path I did 10 years ago minus the creepy doll village. Interesting to note that it took them 3 months to film this show and I covered the same route in less than 3 weeks. I'd like to see what they were up to the rest of the time!

Yujiro really made the show shine, James is pretty good on his own but Yujiro is the perfect foil to James' stodgy side. I wish James had let go a little bit more ie: let that boy band actually dress him or just suck it up and go to the maid cafe... but say what you want about him, he's true to himself.

Yeah there were parts that kind of fell flat. I like that they just took a bunch of chances, recorded it all, and put most of it into the show. Honestly this could have been a really good 1 or 2 hours like their Cambodia boat episode. I appreciate the long form because it was interesting enough and funny enough that it didn't drag too much.

You can tell they knew they had something with Yujiro and probably used him more than they originally planned. Dude just says whatever is on his mind with no shame at all, but unlike most people who do that, it is harmless and self-deprecating and funny, instead of insulting and mean.

I know I laughed at some of the haikus so it couldn't have been that bad

As for the maid cafe, I think in the west, we think of these places being SUPER creepy, in a more sexual way than they actually are. It is kind of hard for us to understand... they're kind of creepy to western sensibilities, but not AS creepy as we assume. Most of the girls there are just really into that kind of thing. They consider it to be "cute" and don't even really think of the subservient aspect. It's a weird thing, but I think James took it way too seriously. I thought he was doing a bit and they'd eventually go in, but nope, he actually thinks it's kind of a whore house.
