Well, maybe the Clement guy had every intention of launching except he couldn't get it up.
I'm sure he's going to have to deal with that for the rest of his life.

Not sure why you guys are all so upset. All that you got "scammed" of was 10 minutes of your time and the chance of getting a free credit on the site.
Doesn't look like it's going up but I as one am not surprised. There's tons of these types of sites going up every day...i already get about 10 emails every morning from some that I keep tabs on. The guy took a risk and doesn't look like it worked out...life goes on, and people try other things. The fact that he got nearly 10,000 people signed up without offering any deals and just some prizes is pretty impressive in my opinion.

I really wonder if the Ipads and Trip was actually given out to random people. Seems right now it was one big scam to get everyones info that they can sell off. I wonder how much they would even get for 9600 people's information.

email address so they could sell to other companies (spam/junk) is one big possibility , its a preety big buisness these days.
who knows if they could take your information for liking their facebook page or not is another factor
didnt a bunch of people win gift cards and shit from revscene?
did anyone ever claim their prize?

I understand what you're saying but until they distribute your emails they haven't done anything with them except send out some news letters back in February or whenever. It was a business experiment gone wrong...i doubt anyone would want to waste months of their time to mislead everyone on purpose. but like i said...the moment I start getting junk mail flooding my inbox, i will be right next to you.

Meh. I'm not caring about the over saturation of groupon-type sites. There are some pretty wicked deals out there. Maybe I'm not really their target market? I'm pretty careful in picking what I buy.

btw i disagree with you guys about them launching when it was over-saturated. They launched this at a time when the market was just beginning to fill up with these smaller vendors and it was pretty much the perfect time to get in.
The fact that they did all these soft launches with an already fully functional website tells me that their failure is due to them not putting enough effort into getting shops on board. By the time they gave away their trip, it was already too late.
The fact that their website doesn't allow you to delete your account is absurd. It's illegal to send a promotional email to someone unless tehy have opted-in. I wonder if it's also illegal to not have an option to delete your account?

OK, so dont be feeling left out, as i got a hold of the owner of the dailysteal.
the site is temperarily down due to hardware failure. i believe they managed to redirect the dns to a dummy site, but for the time being, the site and company are taking an intermission as they need to do what is needed. Owner has been busy with other things and has left his team to handle the situation. Contacting rs just slipped as one of the ppl that needed to be informed.
As far as i was told, the db may be corrupted, but was told its being worked on.
thats the info i could get for now.
Hope they have a relaunch.
So dont think you guys are alone on this boat...
I'll update as i myself get more info.

just to add, if this was a US company, if whomever did happen to get their hands on your info, they would be in a world of hurt by the United States FTC...
We are talking high levels of federal involvement, and jail time. it was all over the news, spamhaus, webmaster boards, when some spammer got their hands on some database from a company, then used it themselves.
forget being sued up the ass, worry about the cockmeat sandwichs in white colar jails... Quote:
