starting issues ok so my car has been acting really messed up lately. it really stutters when i try to start it. i dont think the starter is going cuz on my last civic i had the issue and remember what is sounds like although i may be wrong. sometimes the car just cranks but doesnt turn over then it ish turns over and then comes to life. other times when i try to start it, it cranks once then makes this noise as if its being stopped from starting (that doesnt make any sense but i dont know how to describe it.lol). i have a 92 civic cx 5 speed. my battery it quite new and all the wiring for subs and amps and deck was done professionally so i dont think its draining the battery. usually i get this issue on a cold start. on warm/hot starts it starts fine. but if i let it sit for couple of hours or over night it always does that. so ya any ideas would be awesome.thanks. |
When it cranks, does it crank fast or slow? If it's slower than usual, then it might be the battery. Do a load test on it or use a DVOM. Probe the lead on the positive/negative terminal on the battery and start the car. If voltage drops bellow 9.6volts while cranking, the battery is no good or you may have a parasitic draw somewhere which drained the battery prior to starting. I am leaning more towards a parasitic draw since i am assuming that this didn't happen before the subs/amp/deck were installed. I may be wrong tho. |
When your starter makes the grinding noise it is a sign that its nearing the end of its life. Now if your battery was draining the starer would crank slower and slower as you tried to turn it over, this can also happen if your battery does not have enough cold cranking amps |
