If you're a Buddhist, go to temple and ring in the new year. UBC Asian Studies Centre has been doing this for the past 15 years.

Vancouver Buddhist Temple has been hosting this annual event for over 15 years at the UBC Asian Studies Centre. This traditional event is observed to express gratitude for the past year and the bell ringing ceremony represents the symbolic ringing away of man’s 108 passions. It is a reminder of the need to free ourselves from self-centeredness as we face the New Year.
The Bell-ringing service, officiated by Vancouver Buddhist Temple Resident Minister, Rev. Tatsuya Aoki, will begin at 11:30pm. Following the service, Ama-zake, a traditional warm, malted-rice drink will be served.
