question about driving as a learner w/o any Passenger and getting into accident.
 

Just completely curious, my dumb cousin is driving all the time *as a learner (L)* and is not driving with anyone at all, if an accident occurs through the fault of the opposing party (other person), will ICBC pay for damages to his vehicle? Thanks.

His insurance is rendered void since he isn't obeying his restrcitions. Also this has been discussed to death, try searching.

There will be no insurance coverage on the vehicle while driven by your cousin.

In the even of an accident, all expenses including legal and medical, on top of repairs, will be defaulted to the registered owner of the vehicle. Even if the accident was not your cousin's fault. Criminal/legal charges can also be pressed.

Also, if your cousin gets pulled over or gets into an accident, then the vehicle will be impounded, and your cousin will lose his license.

I'm not usually a mean-spirited person, but I hope he gets hit by someone while driving, so it'd teach him a fucking lesson.

The owner could also be charged for permitting an unlicenced driver to operate his vehicle...as someone violating restrictions is not legally licenced. As BallpeenHammer2 so eloquently and tactfully put it...it will teach your cousin and the car's owner a very expensive lesson for choosing to break the law because they just don't care..

Just to add.

Not only will he be responsible for his own vehicle repairs, medical expenses and potential lost wages, he will also be responsible for any of the costs incurred by who he's in an accident with. You need to tell your aunt, uncle, parents about this not post a thread on revscene.

I'm also a nice person, but this is so blatantly ignorant I hope he's in an accident, it'll teach him a lesson before he kills someone.

Jesus christ at some of u guys saying the kid deserves to get into an accident. I used to drive around with my L and I know a bunch people who have, I had one close call but luckily I didn't get hit..
All of us were once young and dumb and have done stupid things, If not then u are a square. Tell ur 'cousin' to stop though, incase anything does happen and he fucks up his parents insurance.

and there's just plain stupid - driving with your L, possibly hurting or killing someone or yourself - and possibly putting yourself AND your family in a lot of debt.

I don't think anybody here would actually wish harm against the kid - but either the OP sucks at the art of persuasion, or the "cousin" just care - in which case, a "invaluable lesson" like getting in an accident is one of the best remedies I know.

Well thats not true.

In fact, it won't affect his parent's insurance at all. However, it will cause his parents and his family some financial problems when the insurance is void and they get sued for damages + injuries.

no but seriously, i know people who only have their learners who can actually drive better than people with their N. When my buddies would take a car out with their L they would be extra cautious and less reckless. I dunno, just my take on it. It's wrong but come on, dont wish for the kid to get into an accident. Getting pulled over and having your license taken away seems good enough..

^Your a kid still, so you don't understand just how serious driving alone with an L is.

I'm not an old man and I'm definitely not a square, but I'm old enough to realize just how dangerous driving is and to know that driving alone with an L is likely the beginning of a history of dangerous driving. If the kid were to get in an accident now he would learn to take driving more seriously before he had the opportunity to actually kill someone. I'll bet your buddies who drove with their L, also drive drunk.

driving with your L without a passenger (assuming he/she cannot drive) is more dangerous than c-lais :troll:

L Drivers > C-Lai's > CWD's > Seniors > Regular Drivers

I've been young, dumb, and stupid before. Sometimes, it takes one serious event to waken them up from their stupidity. Sometimes, the person can figure it out themselves. All depends on the person. I sure hope the latter happens before anyone else gets hurt (if he/she gets hurt doing stupid stuff, then its their fault - innocent bystanders are... innocent)

If the OTHER driver was at fault then NO your friend is lucky.

If you get into any accident, whether it was your fault or the other party, your insurance will be void. This means you will be liable for damages and would have been driving without a valid license since you are breaking the restrictions.

If the other driver is at fault then they are lucky, because they would still have no liability in the accident since your friends insurance would be void.

also I know someone who got their license revoked (not suspended)

got rear ended with body damages, claimed insurance for whip lash etc

and got paid off by the other end.

He asked ICBC and they said, you are freaking lucky you're not at fault.

Second, i've done stupid shit too, but not something that could potentially break my parent's bank. That's just ignorant, stupid and irresponsible.

If it was the cousin driving his own car with no license, go right ahead. Just don'tbitch on RS about later.

But he's not. It's his PARENT's car. if you read a few lines up, I said ALL financial responsibilities and reprecussions will default to the REGISTERED OWNER upon an accident.
