Photography news that may interest you...

1) Cameron Variable ND filters: Cameron has just announced a line of variable ND filters with a very attractive price tag. The cost for a 77mm filter will be around $85! Will be available on the Canadian market very soon.

2) Fujifilm F550EXR compact camera with GPS! Interesting GPS functionality in the new Fuji camera. You can turn on the GPS and have it continuously tracklog your travels even when the camera itself is turned off and download the tracks at a later date. It also will geotag your shots with actual place-names since it has a built-in Navteq database of over 500,000 worldwide points of interest. You can also navigate back to a photo that you took since it will give you a distance and compass indicator, the idea being lets say, that you were at an excellent restaurant, you took a shot of your meal, and then want to return there at a later date but forgot where it was. Lastly, it will display the longitude and latitude on the rear LCD. Actually pretty darn cool to have all that in a camera.

Also, despite being flagged as having a "BSI" sensor, it is not just a crappy Sony BSI sensor like the last Fuji HS10 had. This is a true FujiFilm-made BSI EXR sensor (16 megapixel), with an 8 megapixel extended-dynamic-range mode (EXR DR) and low-light modes (EXR NR) as well as raw capture and full-HD 1920x1080 video as well as 60-fps capture at 1280x720, allowing for slow-motion effects. We'll see if the 24-360mm zoom has improved over the last version though - the previous F300EXR lens was pretty soft at the 24mm equivalent unfortunately.

how would the cameron filter compare to the likes of b+w or singh ray for the vari-nd filters? that indeed is a good price point?

by any chance, are they calling it MC FADER ND Cameron filters? i think i saw the 77mm on henrys being sold for 119

B+W doesn't make a variable ND. I have never seen a Singh Ray, but I'm sure it will be superior to the Cameron in colour neutrality.

$119 seems a bit too much.

The Fuji sounds neat... I just wonder how hard that is on batteries and how good the reception is. Geolocating your meal won't work very well if the signal drops out in the restaurant.

Still... it's a cool idea. I'd love to see Canon come out with an idea like this built into a battery grip... kinda like the one with built-in WiFi and FTP, but with GPS instead.

In regards to the Fuji F550EXR, Samsung had one out last year called the ST1000. The Samsung ST1000 also had geo tagging along with bluetooth and wifi, but I don't the GPS itself is able to stay on after the camera is off.
