Yeah.. so that means the Lansdowne Zellers will probably close up shop? They're not keeping both Zellers and Targets around right?

dignatas 05-26-2011 03:24 PM

wow no target in landsdown??? That place is like a ghost town anyways compared to richmond centre. :speechless:

What are the big changes about zellers switching to target?? I have never been to target before.

I shutter a lot too, with my DSLR. But I shudder at improper use of language more than anything.

The thing about big box stores compared to the small, local businesses. Small business usually occupies a niche market that will still receive business, as seen with Port Moody and the Ioco area.

Malls and stores such as Walmart, Superstore and Costco don't necessarily kill the small guys, but it does take some traffic away. I still shop at smaller stores, and actually go on walks where I'll wander around and see what there is to see in Vancouver, but I also do once monthly/bi-weekly trips to Costco or Walmart, just for shits and giggles.

My only hope, with regards to the Target takeovers of those locations, is that they clean up how disgusting some of those large stores have become. Some of them are complete and utter messes. I know. I used to work at the Oakridge one.

Hopefully less mess, not quite as hopeless product (bye bye Truly?) and staff that actually care a bit more. The latter... I'm not keeping my hopes up.

StylinRed 05-26-2011 07:51 PM

^^ i dunno the zellers in coquitlam / haney seem to be handled pretty well

the targets ive been into are total crap (boston)

Culverin 05-26-2011 08:26 PM

At least Target has a better lineup system where they feed you 1-by-1 into open tellers. Target is also a heck of a lot more organized than zellers.

Alatar 05-26-2011 10:13 PM

I've been to Target in Bellingham, Mt. Vernon, Seattle, Marysville, Denver (several in the Denver area), Morgan Hill CA, San Jose CA. I haven't seen one yet that was as bad or even CLOSE to as bad as the best Zellers up here.

flagella 05-26-2011 10:35 PM

Harryt 05-26-2011 10:44 PM

Very unlikely to happen... just like when WalMart came up here to Canada.

I remember saying the same thing in a thread then. Pretty much all the food and beverage items will be sourced from local distributors... so we still won't see all the different varieties of drinks and stuff that is available down south.

We won't see the half gallon jugs of AriZona iced tea.

We won't get the gallon jugs of Gatorade.

We won't have Cherry Coke as a regular flavour of pop.

Too bad though...

Also factor in the fact that we have different food/drink/dairy regulations here in Canada vs. states (high fructose corn syrup regulations etc.)

I'm surprised Scottsdale Mall was chosen over Central City.

jackmeister 05-24-2012 05:09 PM

don't worry guys, its just the "first 105".. im sure there are more coming!

even RICHMOND isn't included. wtf?

Alatar 05-24-2012 05:25 PM

Slightly Ironic... Zellers Lansdowne was store #105 in the Zellers system.

Verdasco 05-24-2012 06:46 PM

is it a target location on sweden and bridgeport where the old ikea use to be???

tiger_handheld 05-24-2012 09:28 PM

As great as it is that Target is coming, I feel for the employees of Zellers. I'm not sure if any media outlet reported it, but all current Zellers employees are being laid-off. Target is hiring new employees at min. wage/just over min wage. Employees at Zellers with 18 years of seniority are being reduced to nothing. Apparently HBC was to receive a lower price if Target had absorbed the current employees.

rice cooker 05-24-2012 10:40 PM

im pretty sure they just gonna replace the giant zellers sign with a giant target sign lol

PiuYi 05-24-2012 10:42 PM

read half way through first page before i realized its a 2011 thread bump :fuuuuu:

and i'm glad target isn't coming to richmond... seeing their logo makes me think i'm in the states
