| Help!! wifi router choices?
Hi, I am looking to buy a good fast/stable router for our house. I came across this website that does router comparisons. http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/index...ess&Itemid=200
Can someone guide/teach me how to read their charts? I am not very technical person so i basically will be choosing from the top (#1 Dlink storage router,#2 asus N13, #3 etc...)
Please recommand me a router, We have 4 computers in the house, one will be hooked up to the LAN port, the rest will be wireless. Need a router that will be provide good connection ( streaming videos, gaming simualtaneously). And NO, I dont want a dual band router)

We just got the Linksys E3000 and are very happy with it. Wireless N, great range, never lost a signal, no interference from other networks (We live in a condo with 15+ other networks around us), and was easy to set up and secure.
As for their charts... higher score is better in how they rate the router. I'd just research a handful of routers and go with the one that fits your price range and needs.

I use the Asus RT-N16 with a custom firmware called Tomato 1.28 beta. I torrent a lot and the router never crashed. I have about 8 wireless devices using the router every night. Pretty rock solid.
The D-Link DIR-655 is also pretty good. From what I've heard, it's somewhat rock solid. You don't need to change the firmware or anything, so this is easier to set up for the less tech savvy people.

Shockingly, I run the PS3 wireless, + 2 laptops and 1 hard wired desk top on a Telus' high speed extreme modem/router with remarkable stability, it's easy to set up and password protected. Currently I'm on here, someone's doing a Civ 5 online game and I'm streaming netflix on the PS3 and no one's having any lag or problems which is better preformance then I've gotten out of other routers in the past.

are there antenna hacks or something? specific to the 655? or generic ones that involve tinfoil etc.?

I've got a Dlink DIR-615. Nothing fancy, does the job. At any given time, there are 3-6 devices on the connection in my house.

Using Netgear WNDR3700, very happy so far.
Hooked up over 15-20 gadgets/game machines/handhelds from all diff wireless types (B,G,N, N5g) no problems at all. Very easy to set up 2.4g/5G and guest networks, just plug in a 2TB drive in a USB enclosure for a file server.
Very stable, very fast, highly recommended.
Edit:
Its on sale at ncix http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...r&promoid=1277

I have a Netgear WNR3500L.
It's the best bang for your buck for features and performance. You get wireless N and gigabit switch for only $60-$70.
It's faster and more stable than my old WRT54G.
Best thing is that it made to support Tomato and DD-WRT. You don't need to worry about right version of the router.

I've got Dlink-825 B1 with DDWRT running. I love it. I've got anywhere between 3-5 other computers using it, and I'm able to limit bandwidth |

My needs: 1) playing game in basement 2) streaming video (my sister, and mom)
I dont know whats DDWRT or care to learn. All i need is a fast, lag-free wireless connection from my shaw cable box to all 4 computers in my house simultaneously.
I am looking at Buffalo WHR-HP-G300N ,, anyone has any thoughts on that?

I'm looking at a new router now also..
Based on some recommendations, I was looking at the DLink 625 or 655.
I'm going to go with the 655 because the 625 doesn't have gigabit LAN ports.

^It's not as outrageous as you may make it sound. The OP is a total noob by his own admission. The guy's not asking about 3rd party firmware, he just wants a router.
Some people know too much about this stuff. Done improperly, giving advice can easily frustrate someone who's not well-versed about the topic.
Personally, I use the DIR-615.

Then if you have any problems, you can just call their tech support, instead of having to rely on all the smartasses here.

I have the DIR615 and the signal keeps getting dropped. The distance is about 30 feet and through maybe 2 walls (from downstairs to upstairs).
The weird thing is if I have a torrent going, the signal is pretty steady otherwise it drops every minute or so. If I move right in front of it I have no problems. I've googled it but I don't understand any of that shit.. Anyone have any tips/suggestions?
