Freshest Sashimi restaurants in the Lower Mainland? What's your pick? Unlike my older days when I was obsessed with bang for buck sushi, I'm more into better quality.. What's your pick for the freshest sashimi/nigiri sushi in the lower mainland? |
Shiro Posted via RS Mobile |
well i assume you would mean sushi/sashimi. the usual would be sushi hachi, aji-sai and surprisingly guu aberdeen. they have all been consistent enough to gain my thumbs up. i've been wanting to try kiriri's sushi for awhile but haven't got down to it...but from what i've seen on their board of fresh fish, it might be up there on the list too. |
Sushi Paradise Small joint in new west, 8th and Princess....owner is from osaka japan and used to be a chef at octopus garden. The most consistant place for good Toro Nigiri sushi and sashimi....and the best tasting negitoro roll in town imo. www.sushiparadise.ca Posted via RS Mobile |
Shima-ya on Victoria just north of E41st. |

Any places with really fresh Hamachi? Even at Shiro, Sushi hachi, they sometimes lack the freshness. I guess it varies every time. |

Go to Octopus Garden. You won't be disappointed. If possible, get Chef Sada to cook for you (although it won't all be sashimi). |
if you are in north van try Karasu Sushi small place behind the mcdick's on marine (beside Morning Glory b-tea place) old japanese fellow owns it and the hot jap girls from bodwell international school go there all the time. Never had an issue with his quality.(or the JDM hotness) |
Banzai Sushi House! :D |

I find Isami (across Staples metrotown) and Nao are great places too... |
since we're on the topic of japanese food... best miso soup? or Ramen? |
Gonna give sushi paradise a try. |

If you're lucky last month I went to sushi king kerrisdale and ordered hamachi sashimi which was wonderful. But yeah their sashimi is usually not that great haha. +1 for sushi garden toro, I always order it and has been consistent, -2 if you get a bitchy korean chick serving you though |
Maybe it's a longshot, but anybody happens to have Shima-Ya Sushi's menu to scan? I used to like Nao Sushi a lot. One of the few rare places that has Salmon Toro Sashimi. Salmon Toro deserves to be capitalized. However, the last few times I ordered regular tuna toro, they were still partially frozen. Was disappointed. |

and i will also check out sushi paradise! |
Shima-ya is pricey. |

Very expensive for the quality. For that price, I rather go Sushi Hachi or Shiro. |
