Noob Computer Question

As the title states I got a noob computer question. Up until now I've never had the need to hook up my pc to watch stuff on my tv until now. So looking at the back of my PC I can confirm I have VGA, DVI, and HDMI and I want to connect it to my LCD TV.

My question is can I simply just buy a HDMI cable, connect the 2 and away we go? I did some reading and some articles talks about the need to buy a PC to TV converter? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Btw make sure you cheap out on HDMI cables. Don't buy the $100 Monster crap. The $4 stuff works exactly the same.

it's been a while since i've gotten hdmi cable..but there's virtually no difference between 1.2...1.3a/b and 1.4 unless you are trying to do audio bitstreaming or if you have a new graphics card?

A HDMI cable does support digital audio, but your computer video card might not output audio thru the HDMI connector. You may need another cable to go from the audio outputs of the computer to the TV audio inputs. You should research your video card.

Image quality won't vary, obviously, being digital, but I find the cheap cables are too stiff for my liking and, if you connect and disconnect them a lot, the solder joints tend to fail (had the HDMI end get stuck in my laptop, Monoprice).

While I certainly would never advise anyone to buy the incredibly overpriced Monster cables, I don't think I will buy another dirt cheap cable unless it's at least decently flexible and I'd probably spend a bit more if it's going to be connected/disconnected a lot.

what gauge of cable did you get? the 28 ones are much more flexible than the 24

but i guess i've connected/disconnected no more than twice and the thick unflexible ones are working very well at 50ft for me. hdmi, optical, and coaxial from monoprice.
