Rough idle when defroster is turned on

2001 corolla has rouch idle when defroster is turned on... it almost sounds like its gonna stall... this is our tenants car and he was hoping it would be a cheap easy fix..

Sounds like the current draw is taking power away from the ignition system. Might be time to check the alternator and battery and make sure they are charging and holding a charge properly.

What happens if you rev the motor to around 3000rpm?

i have no idea what happens when u rev the car up to 3k rpm... i never drove it, he just showed me the problem.... did not see what happened with the car with defrost on While driving.. i am gonna geuss it drives fine??

i have never checked battery and alternater with the tester thingy... i do have a digital multi meter thingy laying around.. will that work to test it?? i hope i dont get shocked, i geuss ill seach up google to see how to do it..

this video just showed me how to do it... youtube has everything....

i got 1 question though... when u have the multi meter hooked up to the battery with the car OFF... would a bad battery show up like 7 or something... as u can see in the video his stays around 12 and a bit higher after he turned on his car... i geuss this will check both the battery and the alternator at the same time??

it should read above 12 volts..something between 12-12.6 if the car has just been turned off.

Anything below 12V whether the car has just been turned off or the batter has been sitting for a while means that the battery is dead.

You don't have a load tester, so you cannot test the load abilities of the battery (ie, when you start the car). You can take it to any automotive shop and they'll be able to test it for you free of charge if they're not busy and you have your intentions relatively clear to them.

i got one of those ones that you plug into your 12v adapter that came with my multimeter, i guess it works ?
