buy from the states *get LPauto to help you out if you dont want to DIY the paperwork*

probably can get a 328i for a cdn 323i price.

RangeRover 01-25-2011 12:18 AM

ohhh good suggestion

so many suggestions in this thread!

Arash 01-25-2011 12:48 AM

I would go with a Jaguar XJ (X350) and get a face lift kit (body kit) to make it look like a Jaguar XJ (X350) X358. All for under 20k if bought from the states.
I read these are the highest placed none Japanese cars for reliability, but I dont know for which years.

From the BMW mechanics who change them regularly? The same mechanics who all own a nice leatherette knee pad that used to be a seat cushion in a BMW? From those same mechanics who all own a pair of hog ring pliers (a tool that usually only upholsterers own).

Hmmm, I'm at 70K and have had no such issues. Guess it's hit or miss really, or how well you take care of them.

How come you love your Volvo's so much?!

GabAlmighty 01-25-2011 05:19 PM

Because everybody else laughs.

RangeRover 01-25-2011 05:22 PM

I wanted a volvo station wagon in high school so badly

BrRsn 01-25-2011 07:29 PM

What do you have against the e46? I personally love it way more than the e90 and its an absolutely classic design ... just make sure to get a 330 that's facelift (2002 and newer) with the mtech2 package/ZHP (Most underrated 3 series to date IMO) ...

Invest $2000 in some headers + a borla catback + install and you get this:

....

and another vid just for shits and giggles ...

I'm a little bias towards e46's though .. I've always wanted one.

I've never heard of a girl in high school wanting a Volvo station wagon :fullofwin:

Picture yourself rolling off into the sunset in a brand new Daewoo Lanos. How do you feel?

Sorry I meant to say an e90 not a E92.

Here's my thing, I've had my E46 for awhile and I love it.
I had a dream I got new headlights on it last night (I guess that's what revscene will do to you).

The thing is that I just really want an upgrade and I LOVE the newer 3 series (2006 and on).

And I get bored of cars so easily- I just really really want to upgrade!!!

GabAlmighty 01-25-2011 10:20 PM

Can I have your e46? My runner burns too much gas.

hchang 01-26-2011 12:01 AM

I guess I'll be a man of my word and vouch that RangeRover isn't a troll.

I'm sure all of the guys on chat can back me up on this! :p

Thanks chang!

And the BMW is actually so bad on gas. It's a gas pig.

Hi guys!!!!! :)

I'm selling my BMW in the spring and am going to be upgrading.

I kind of want to spend around the $20,000 mark give or take a few thousand and want to get another BMW(love them)

So I'm wondering what you guys think I should get?

For the year and price range I have seen a

2005 x3
2005 or 2006 525i
or a 2007 323i

I know a lot of you probably think the 323i sucks, because it has a small engine ETC but I don't really care about speed or anything like that.

I just want something reliable, good for the city, and comfortable.

I feel like the 5 series is kind of a contender, but I'm not 100 percent

What do you guys think?

I would do the 323i, newest, highest resale value most likely after you get sick of it.

But I wouldn't mind a VW GTI at your price range, plus or minus a few thousand.

WTF...you just quoted the original post...:facepalm:

jpark 01-26-2011 06:19 AM

id rather drive a lexus is250 than a bmw 323i..

skylinergtr 01-26-2011 11:24 PM

out of your suggestions,

i recommend the 2005 x3, or a 2005 525i.

the 2006 525i, and 323i is the new n52 motor. Its much better on fuel enomony, but I dont know if i would trust it reliability wise. They have expensive electric waterpumps, and possibly electric power steering too. Not to mention there is lots of complaints of lifter noise and vanos failure.

The engine in the 2005 x3 and 2005 525i is the m54 engine, which could possibly be one of the best engines bmw made (other than the M engines ofcouse).

Just my suggestions coming from a BMW guy. To be honest, i feel like they are going down the drain in reliability.

Dont get a new BMW unless your going to lease it, abuse it, and return it.

RangeRover 01-26-2011 11:56 PM

YIKES!

So you think an 05 525i is good.

I have some very important decisions to make!
