this holiday season....

why can't they be more like Apple.... it would be in stores next week! or something like that LOL

twitchyzero 01-26-2011 09:44 PM

touchscreen OLED? this shit's gonna be overpriced.

Did they mention how a touchcreeen back panel would work?

edit: wonder what the new media is going to be..looks like SD cards

dub.g 01-26-2011 11:07 PM

sony and nintendo is just getting lazier with their designs......... they both look the same from their predecessors... at least its good for brand awareness

touchcreen, gyro are both standard now for mobile gaming..

so 3d gaming for nintendo with graphics the same capability as a psp against ps3 graphic games on the go with 3g online gaming...

it will be interesting which handheld takes off this gen.. my money is still on 3ds

i still highly doubt iphone/ipod touch will take over portable gaming anytime soon, gamers still want their tactical buttons

twitchyzero 01-26-2011 11:10 PM

quad core processor..holy mother of god. I'm most excited about the possibility of being able to play your PS3 games while you go out (syncing game files?).. at least that's what's hinted on their blog. We'll see more at E3.

I'm gonna be so poor in Q4 if i'm getting this and building a new computer.

yuusha 01-26-2011 11:39 PM

Lost Planet 2, I'm sold. Writing Sony a blank cheque now.

monkeywrench 01-27-2011 12:38 AM

Quad core? Holy fuck, I'm sold already.

Manic! 01-27-2011 01:57 AM

If this is just a mobile version of the PS3 with the same type of games this is fail.

VK79 01-27-2011 02:38 AM

Good move by Sony. Basically creating 2 separate devices which covers all mobile gamers. The casual 15-30 min angry birds crowd with the psp phone and the "hardcore" final fantasy/call of duty gamer with this.

Shiet, this looks sick.

Call of Duty is casual 11yo scrub tier. :)

Jsunu 01-27-2011 08:30 AM

Man now I realize since the analog sticks out, i wonder if it will cause issues when it is in your pocket/bag.

I wouldn't consider this a fail this is a big step in gaming. For example you can save your NHL 12 data to a network cloud and access it on your psp2 on the go.

Of course psp2 would have exclusives as well. This HH can probably emulate PS2 games as well so think about all PS2 games accessible on the PSP2 for example MVC2, SNK vs CAPCOM2 play MVC2 online etc

PuYang 01-27-2011 09:03 AM

im definitely buying this ;D

i love my PSP2000, although i barely play it ;p

also, if anyone has been keeping track, sony is also rumored to be making a "psp phone" (has a bunch of different names).

edit: oops, theres already a thread on the ps phone ;]

you have to keep in mind that a smart consumer will not invest their money on 2 products that is literally identical in performance and capabilities..

mobile gaming should have a completely different experience than its console counterpart, killzone liberation and mgs portable catered to this experience by having an on the go short missions

the ds and the app store games differentiate the games from consoles, which is why it became so popular..

its hard to tell wether the psp could have succeeded more without its piracy issues or it just cant compete with ds at all

what im really curious is how much will the psp cost now, there is no way they will price this at $250

either the ps3 gets a price drop this holidays down to $250 and have this priced at $300, most likely more

Grandmaster TSE 01-27-2011 10:10 AM

i think i will be gettin one haha

ForbiddenX 01-27-2011 10:39 AM

Damn those specs are amazing.

As always, it doesn't matter. It's all about innovation and how the gaming experience is instead of how well it looks/runs.

skyxx 01-27-2011 10:53 AM

^ It's going to be released year end when a lot of mobile devices will come with multiple core processors. :) Though the Cortex A9 chip is quite a beast of engineering.

monkeywrench 01-27-2011 10:57 AM

Wow the back of the device looks very matrix like. I wonder how that back controls work? Some kind of touch sensitive back to do..?

EDIT: Oh wait I just watched the video of how the back works. Wow gives the PSP so much more control.. Amazing

CP.AR 01-27-2011 11:32 AM

The playstation phone will just be a normal android phone... but with this preloaded I'm guessing

It's not normal when the processor it's using is quite awesome.

I disagree a smart consumer would already know what product he/she would like to purchase. An average consumer in this case an average gamer might want to consider where he would rather spend his money. He could choose a lighter gaming platform such as the 3DS or a more intense gaming platform on the PSP2. I would compare the 3ds and the psp2 to a MAC and a PC. Why do average consumers rather buy a more expensive MAC than its PC counterpart is because of the platform not because of identical hardware.

The 3DS and PSP2 offer a different expereince when it comes to portable gaming. Now if Microsoft released an Xbox180 mobile platform which has similar hardware/software titles to the PSP2 then you have competition the average consumer might not want to purchase both because the gaming experience on both handhelds are similar.

I agree but PSP2 will have its own exclusives but from this handheld has a huge library; PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, PSP2, PSP-Go games (or whatever they call it).

the ds and the app store games differentiate the games from consoles, which is why it became so popular..

This is true but we are talking about next generation that is still past generation logic. This generation is all about "cloud computing" take your data/games/files/music on the go or have the complete experience at home this is what Sony is going after and its a big step in technology. Microsoft should of capitalized with this along time ago

its hard to tell wether the psp could have succeeded more without its piracy issues or it just cant compete with ds at all

PSP is doing good in Japan and with the PSP2 users can take the handheld anywhere they go and have a similar experience to what they play at home. For example a traveling salesman can have all his media in his pocket on the road wherever he/she goes.

what im really curious is how much will the psp cost now, there is no way they will price this at $250

Sony will price this at 349 (going to guess) which is a fair price since a 32GB IPOD sells for 299. Everybody forgets how Apple rapes its users for handhelds devices but people still buy them at stupid prices. Look at the iPHONE 4 it goes for 800 bucks which should really be sold for 350. Why is an iPHONE 4 more expensive than an iTOUCH is it because it has 3G, maybe is it because its labeled as a phone. Nowadays the term phone is stupid its more like phone software running on a computer and that makes a handheld device way to overpriced.

either the ps3 gets a price drop this holidays down to $250 and have this priced at $300, most likely more

I am going to guess 349 to start and price drops to 299 - 249, 209 etc

Just to make it clear I am not a Sony Fanboy I just see alot of potential in this device.

underscore 01-27-2011 06:19 PM

^ people buy a Mac because they're a retard who wants to be "cool"

On topic, I can see this being quite expensive, and I kinda doubt Sony would drop the PS3 price because of it. I don't have a huge need for portable gaming personally but I'm still tempted to snag one of these after the first price drop.

Where I think this could be awesome (sync wise) is having side missions based off of your main PS3 games, that implement your unlocks and progress from the main game.

twitchyzero 01-27-2011 09:58 PM

i just really want this to be a stupid phone...having a SIM card slot and i'm willing to pay $500 for it. They should've capitalized on this and i think it would help sell it A LOT better...rather than spending the R&D for a PSP-Go phone (Xperia Play).

i dont know if we'll see quadcore phones in 2012..hell i dont think there's even quadcore netbooks yet.

That's also it's a hate and love relationship when it comes to Playstation products...they have crazy specs ahead of its time but at a premium for early adopters...the only time this has really backfired was the common YLOD of PS3 but look at how every playstation console was ahead of its game with the physical formats (CD => DVD => blu-ray)
