Automotive Rig Locations?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows of good automotive rig locations?
I'm looking for something that doesn't have parking lot stalls (parking lot lines)
Just some open level road where there is not a lot of traffic. Preferably close to the water as I can get some colour from the sun. Or any under ground parking lot but the only one I know of would be metrotown.

I usually go to some warehouses around river road.

Anyone know?

Thanks
Mike

if you are willing to drive out, tsawwassen and point robert had some stretches of roads by the water.

iona beach by the airport also has some stretches of road that have less traffic.

Rolling rig cruise.
A row a cars with section cups and poles sticking out of them travelling very slowly on the road. Lol.

I've never been to Point Roberts but I'm planning on heading out there sometime soon on a weekend.
Iona beach is awesome. Been there so many times for sunset photos and messing around with Danbo. lol I bring that guy everywhere.
Not sure if its good for rig shots as its only a one way street so it might cause an issue with oncoming traffic but it might work.

You can buy one. Google automotive rigs. I think its way over priced though.
I made mine with the help of a certain someone and it's awesome! I'm actually thinking of taping some foam around it just inside even though my rig is pretty strong and sturdy I still wouldn't want to hurt anybodies car

I'm so down and you know it!! Call me anytime! I'll let you know of some sweet locations once I have it all together. I'm planning on driving around and mapping it all out. For now I just use a church parking lot thats close to my house and the back of a warehouse near River Road. Very close to the Alex Fraser bridge.

YES!!! Call me anytime I'm so down! I wanna do as many rig photos as possible! I don't care what car I just wanna shoot photos! Although I don't have a wide angle but my lens takes decent photos.

I'm down to driving out anywhere so it doesn't matter where I just want to have the locations embedded in my mind. I've spent hours looking at google maps. The theaters in Richmond, very close to the tunnel has a huge parking lot and some areas you cannot see the parking lines.
An old abandoned airport landing strip would be ideal as no one would be using it plus tons of room to work with.

The road up to Golden Ears park looks cool as well or maybe even the parking lot there as I remember the stalls are off to the sides with a large spacing in the center so you could get some cool blurry trees with lets say a white car and you wouldn't see the parking stall lines (which you can tell bother me lol) The colours would turn out great I bet on a sunny or overcast day.
I recently purchased a car bra for my Prelude so I'm willing to drive anywhere as I'm protected!

Thanks
Mike

EDIT:

I just thought of the Price Mart grocery store near Rupert street in Vancouver! From what I remember the top level of the parking lot should have lights (don't know how strong they are though) and the top is open so you could get some sweet night time rig photos! YEA!!!

that landing strip would be a good idea. other areas i can think of that's sort of near the water, is the other area of the airport. you know those places i think they call south terminal or something. basically that hangar which has a huge MILLION AIR signage, that area has those semi-isolated roads.

actually, george massey tunnel would be nice during sundays as the traffic isn't too heavy (rolling shots, and not rig shots).

the areas near olympic village too, quebec and 1st or 2nd i think. they have good lights and that industrial feel.

maybe when the weather is a lot sunnier we can do afternoon rolling/rig shots, then end it with strobing or something in abandoned warehouses

if you guys want awesome areas of long stretches of road without cars or distracting backgrounds....i'll show you guys some very spectacular places in exchange for pictures...hehe

also, you guys must be willing to drive a bit of a distance.

Count me in! I'll take photos of anybodies car. Anyone who wants rig photos just PM me. Free of charge, I'm no pro but I love snapping photos

Distracting backgrounds may be a good thing as you want something to be there in order to give you that blurry "driving fast" look. If there is nothing in the background it'll just be a white sky and that may be a bit boring but then theres always photoshop to help out in that area I guess? hah.

Here are some photos that I took so you can see what I mean.

Theres 2 areas I know of, one of them having a close clear view of mountains and farmland background....the other area i know of has stretch of maybe 10+ km of 2 lane road lined with tall ass fir trees down both sides....we "used" to race our cars here for hours...no cop insight...and no cop or park ranger really wants to be there.

I'll see if i can dig up some pics of the area...venturing here during winter/early spring = not good idea.

I've always wanted to build my own rig. Do you guys ever have problems with the suction cups marring the paint? How fast do you drive when taking the shots? I figure 15-20km/h should suffice.

1) I built my own and its awesome.
2) I have fairly new paint on my Prelude. 4 months old now. I used suction cups on the hood once and only once. It left a slight stain the second I took the suction cups off but I was prepared. I used some water to clean/wash it down a bit then sprayed some Meguiars ultimate quick detailer and the stain was gone. You could only see it at a certain angle with the right light but its after spraying it, it's no longer there. I'm skeptical on using it on fresh paint so I'm not going to mount the cups on anyones car unless they don't care or have old crappy paint. I mount the cups on glass since then.
3) You don't drive the car as there will be way too much vibration. Put into neutral with the car off and push.
