I am planning to go to langara for 3 courses in the summer semester. Then for the fall semester ill go back to my own school(this will be my so called semester off at langara). And wait for my acceptance for korea for spring semester??? Can a person even be a full time student for langara while being full time at another school???

I think its at the time of applying. And yea its also a full semester usually but I was never told when its available or open for registration. You can call Valerie however who is in charge of the whole program. Her number is 604 323 5696/5839 and ask her tomorrow.

Thanks. Ill give her a call tmrw. Hopefully she will know abit more then just the program. Otherwise, I might have to make a trip down to Langara. Is everyone planning to go in the Fall of 2011?

Btw is anyone familar of what courses are usually offered at Langara? I wanna be able to get that 2.6 GPA aswell as being able to transfer the credits over to my primary school. thanks abunch!

Use ratemyprofessor to know what to expect from profs when you register and plan what you want to register beforehand. Like a rough draft of your schedule even though the time of the class may change in the registration system. Take courses that are easy and interesting like International Bus, Bus Law, OB, HKIN, bus comp apps, or with easy teachers. Don't take courses that you know the prof is hard unless you are ready to work hard and make the best of the what the course offers.

do the credits transfer to ubc? If it does, I'll apply.

the problem is, 3 months out of the country... I have 2 very good paying part time jobs that will be hard to keep.

PlagueRider 02-03-2011 11:38 PM

dam that sucks then, im kidna reconsidering all this. It seem like i need consider alot more things then just having to do 3 courses at langara for a semester earning an easy 2.6 GPA and applying for the exchange. I will need to speak to an advisor at langara, the person incharge of the exchange program and the advisor at my school to sort things out.

Does anyone know how credits are transfered over to other schools not listed on BCTransferGuide? Ie. Langara > Capilano/BCIT/Kwatlen?

BaoTurbo 02-04-2011 12:06 AM

Credits and courses don't transfer if they are not listed in the Transfer Guide.

Credits DO transfer to other universities, it is just not transfered from Langara to the university. So it will be from Soonchunhyang University directly to your other school. For that information, you will have to contact your other school to see what can transfer. It will require a lengthy process in which you must provide course outlines and such for the other school to evaluate.

Just to give you an example, first all the credits from Korea transfered to Langara. But after my exchange, I went straight to SFU and from there I had to request credit transfers. Only two out of my four courses transfered only. The korean writing course and speaking course could not transfer because SFU does not offer anything similiar, and thus cannot be given SFU credit. That is their policy and also many other university's policy. I am assuming that since UBC I believe offers korean language courses, then it would be able to transfer to UBC. My international business course and my Korean Economy course transfered to BUS 2XX and ECON 2XX respectively.

So in short, credits from korea went to Langara, u then transfered it from Langara to SFU?

From anyones past experience, has the summer semester at langara been offering alot of classes? Can anyone recommend some "easy" arts and science electives? I need about 3-4 of them if possible ;)

Thanks

TOS'd 02-04-2011 11:14 PM

^ I think its only Spring and Fall semesters.

How can you be in University when you can't even comprehend my post. Please re-read the first two lines of my post.

TOS'd 03-07-2011 08:37 PM

Anyone doing this?

Razor Ramon HG 03-08-2011 02:52 PM

Yeah. Got one of my profs to write me a faculty reference letter, and my boss at work to write the personal one. Once I get those, all I have to do is pass the interview and I'm pretty much good to go.

When is the deadline for all of this stuff to be in?

Razor Ramon HG 03-08-2011 11:48 PM

Well, the school doesn't let just anyone go, hence the need for:
  1. A short 250 word essay on why you want to go, and how it relates to educational and/or career goals
  2. Most recent Langara transcript (GPA must be at least 2.6 or 3.0, can't remember)
  3. Personal reference letter (they prefer an employer)
  4. Faculty reference letter (to see your work ethic, if you go to class, etc)
  5. Up to date resume
Then they interview you to see if you're a worthy candidate to send over; no one wants to send someone that will taint the school's reputation.

After that, more paperwork and you wait to see if the Korean school will take you.

More info to be found here - http://kimchix.blogspot.com/ - Read the older posts. So far there's about 6 people interested including myself, not including all the others from other parts of the world.

TOS'd 03-08-2011 11:55 PM

^ Yea I know about all the things you need to have done, but wasnt sure what the deadline was to have all that in/interviewed etc. The site is pretty bad at explaining that sort of thing.

As for that blog, she went for this current semester, where as you are applying for Fall '11?

Razor Ramon HG 03-09-2011 12:24 AM

Deadline is first or second week of April.

I'm applying for Fall '11.

I'll have all my credits done by the end of summer to transfer, go on the exchange, and arrive at SFU for Spring '12.

BaoTurbo 03-09-2011 08:02 AM

GPA required is 2.6 at least. And it's great you're going. I want to apply for Spring 2012

TOS'd 03-10-2011 05:21 PM

Spring 2012 seems to work better for me than Fall 2011.

Razor Ramon HG 03-30-2011 03:30 AM

Got my interview for next Thursday.

Who else got that far?

My biggest concern ATM is my GPA. Fucking Asian Studies last semester and Math this semester harsh owned me.

BaoTurbo 03-31-2011 12:08 AM

im sure if ur off by a bit its fine. I want to go so bad now im not even kidding. Need to get the gpa tho. What made you want to go so bad?
