Not impressed with Lexus Canada..

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum

I have an 06 IS250 with 31 xxx miles on it. (I imported it in Jan08 with 14k miles)

I took it in for a my 30 000 mile service and recall for the master cylinder where they replaced a seal.

Since then my brake peddle began to fades to the floor, it does stop but scares the crap outta me sometimes esp on the highway. I took it back last week they said they would bleed the brakes once again and it should be fine, well it is not still have the same issue. The brakes were great before they did the recall.

The work was performed at Open Road Port Moody Lexus in BC Canada. The car is out of warranty but it was perfectly fine before the recall was performed.

So then I took it back and they informed me that the Rear Right caliper was seized and they replaced a rubber boot on the caliper that had a nik in it allowing water and dirty to get in. This same rubber boot was replaced in 09 under a recall.

I then posted on Myis.com, and I was informed that there was a recall for this issue, Campaign 9LB, so I called my dealer and they informed me that this campaign was already performed and that they will not cover the repairs. I then contact Lexus Canada and submitted a case on Jan 27. I receieved a call this afternoon, they informed me since my recall had already been performed 1.5 years ago (7000 miles) that they are unsure if the boot failed or if there was faulty installation or what happened and they would not cover the issue.

My issue with this is the same rubber boot they recalled in the original campaign failed once again in 7000 miles 1.5 years causing my caliper to seize and they are not going to stand by their product or even cover part of the cost for repairs. The campaign was to replace the boot and check the caliper to see if it is seized, if it was seized to replace it. I am amazed at the lack of service from Lexus! It is a known issue therefore the recall was issued in the first place!

Anyone with any connections at Lexus to help me get this done?? Open Road Lexus quoted me $512.00 for caliper and install including tax.

punkwax 02-01-2011 12:48 PM

Didn't you save more than $512 by importing it?

I'm sure had you purchased it from Open Road they'd be much more inclined to help.. your beef is with Lexus Canada and you didn't buy it from them?

Don't mean to be a jerk and I'm not a car salesperson, thats just my $.02

rk604 02-01-2011 12:52 PM

Uhh...it's not Lexus Canada you should be turning to for the warranty work, but Lexus/Toyota USA. That's one of the downfall of buying a US vehicle, your responsible for the repairs, even if it is still covered under warranty. You should look into contacting a dealer in the states for this if you want some sort of warranty work done.

gurdeep007 02-01-2011 01:07 PM

I understand where you guys are coming from, it is a US vehicle

Lexus/Toyota Warranty covers its vehicles across NA, and all servicing has been performed at Lexus here. The warranty expired in the summer of 2010.

I have no problem getting it fixed, just bothers me that they recall a part and replace it with another faulty part that in turn causes my caliper to fail and I am held liable, esp since this is a known issue and a recall was issued for this reason.

RevRav 02-01-2011 02:03 PM

Try going to OpenRoad Richmond and see if they will do it.
Probably the same result, but it doesn't hurt to ask/try right?

Consider making a day trip down to the States, just take it as a shopping trip or whatever. They might be more willingly to help with your repair.

Totally understand where you're coming from. Buying a Lexus locally in Canada
is a huge difference from buying from the States. You could easily save 10-15k.

what do u expect? lifetime warranty?

Marco911 02-01-2011 02:18 PM

Why should they cover your repair? You are out of warranty. Even with the replaced parts, the work/parts is usually warrantied for one year at most. Suck it up.

dachinesedude 02-01-2011 02:28 PM

not buying the car from OpenRoad is one thing, you didnt even buy it from Canada, im sure Lexus CANADA is delighted to do the recall (free work) for you

they probably didnt even want to spend on a new part for you so they just picked up some used parts, tough luck really

I share the OP's concern as I had similar problems with my Mercedes. There was a TSB for a faulty part, yet the fix was to replace the part with the exact same part, thus pushing the next failure out to past the warranty period.

They should be fixing the part to not fail. I understand wear and tear cause parts to eventually need replacing, yet this is just a bad design that leads to premature failure. I can even understand a badly designed part needs to be replaced, mistakes happen. Yet fix the mistake and replace it with a redesigned part, don't just put a bandaid on it and hope the failure happens much later.

When I get some free time in the next couple days I'll make the call for you. Pm me your vin plz.

GabAlmighty 02-01-2011 03:07 PM

Buy a better car next time.

Shun Izaki 02-01-2011 03:21 PM

i don't know about you, but I imported my Lexus from the states, and did some research... any of it's servicing if not done up here, is done down there for warranty... how hard can it be?

ruthless 02-01-2011 03:37 PM

Lexus Canada honors the US warranty on the car, so no need to go down for warranty work but you could try going down to the dealer you purchased it from and see if they'll help.

CKLCKL 02-01-2011 04:43 PM

You should try different dealers as they may have different opinions on the situation.

Dinan3 02-01-2011 08:37 PM

There's no point going to different dealerships as Lexus Canada already declined to assist you in this case. I'm sure they can repair this as a Goodwill, but not for a car that was imported from the states. There's a reason why buying locally has its advantage.

I would pay that $500 and move on. Your time is more important than trying to dispute this.

bcrdukes 02-01-2011 08:47 PM

If it makes you feel any better, at least you don't have to deal with a coil pack going bad every few months and having to replace them all the time. :p

*coughskyxx'sgticough* :D

AccordCouped 02-01-2011 11:13 PM

lexus/toyota canada honors the warranty from usa, so quit saying they dont.

RevRav 02-02-2011 01:54 AM

Officially....they will honour the warrantly.

but WILL they do it willingly and without giving you as much BS / try to find their way out... is a different story.

skylinergtr 02-02-2011 08:49 AM

i would try a JP lexus dealer. Who know's if it will help or not but its worth a shot.

The only concern i have with trying another dealer is that Openroad did the work on your car and messed it up. They should be responsible for correcting it.

One of my friends bought a car from a JP dealer, but took it for servicing at an openroad dealer because its closer to his house. He said the whole time he was there they were "rude" and didnt seem respectful and would allow him to have a courtesy car or something. It all had to do with the car not being bought from Openroad.

open road richmond is worse than port moody because they know they can take advantage and charge all the chinese people in richmond for everything. I took my RX in to ask for the steering wheel auto tilt to be turned off (plug in the computer and push a few buttons in the menu). I was quoted an hours labor to do it at richmond, port moody got it done in 10 mins and said it was complimentary because it's so easy to do.

Lomac 02-02-2011 09:32 AM

Did they replace the recalled part with the exact same unit? Or did they put in a modified part that doesn't have the same defect in it?

I believe it was the exact same boot.

I have been on a few Lexus forums and it appears this is a commin problem about 1-2 years after the boot had been replaced on a few other IS250's also. Most notice the issue when they are replacing pads because the caliper will not open to allow the thicker pad in. Other's notice it due to loss of stopping power.

I am probably going to have to go to the dealer. Since I have called around and the price difference is not much.

The caliper alone ranges from 240-300 CND

Better question: is there a modified part that doesn't have the same defect?

If I take my car there, they want to redo all the recalls because the CND and US Lexus systems don't interact with eachother, therfore it will be there for 2 days at least they said
