I know a few carpenters who coulda used one of these.

Even if you know its going to stop, it takes BALLS purposely running your finger into a blade like that.

I dare anyone to stick their dick in one of those.

Yeah it's been out for a t least 5 years. A lot of shop teachers have them now. Kids do some really dumb things in tech ed and this will at least "cut" down on bloody incidents and lawsuits.

I remember being on the PAC at my son's school. We gave the OK for one.

Strangely, this technology was not around when one of the tech ed teachers cut off a few of his own digits. Nevermind the kids.

Freaking cool but I hope people don't start getting careless (even a little bit) with saws just because the technology is available.

Could turn out to be like that samurai sword mishap on the shopping channel one day. Never be too cocky when doing demos.

Here's a little bit of blood.......... from their site.

http://www.sawstop.com/finger_saves.php

If some kid does trip the saw stop the replacement of the mechanism is quite expensive. Still worth saving a finger, for sure.

BTW, this is a repost from way, way back......... so it doesn't count.

does it mangle the machine entirely or just the blade?

It'd be pretty useless if the stop screw up the machine or the motors, coz I can see a lot of false positive happening...i.e. dripping sweat, metallic/nails debris trap in wood...etc

The should've designed it such that the sawblade drop down and pull back when triggered (instead of forcing the motor to stop from 2000rpm to 0 in a few milliseconds)

that way there is no expensive replacement every time a false positive happens

Cheap blade then, because a quality one runs about that alone.

Brake itself is 60 - 70 bucks to replace. Blade is on top of that. Again, way cheaper than a law suit or poor shop teacher..... errrrr.......I mean student getting fingers cut off.

It's 5000rpm to 0rpm in 1/1000th of a second. I doubt gravity can pull the blade down fast enough.

Harold, from the first clip, is not OK. Ever since that episode aired, he has not been on television, as he lost his confidence and turned to drugs and alcohol. Now a homeless person, Harold is hoping to be rediscovered like the dude with the golden radio voice.
