indecisive between two muscle cars

Hey guys,

sorry, but this a bit of long read

I am really stuck on choosing between 2 cars that I am planning to get next year (summer) 2012.

I will be using these two cars as a dailydriving
The two cars are the Chevy Camaro SS (2011) and the Dodge Challenger RT (2010) I decided to discard the new Ford Mustang 5.0 because I'm not really a "Ford" guy and I just don't see my self driving a Stang. But don't get me wrong, it is a outstanding performance car.

I have test driven both the Camaro and Challenger.
and these are my Pros and Cons for both cars (from my personal experience)

First the Challenger.
Pros: Beautiful exterior (eye candy), very spacious in the car (both the front and back seat), powerful engine noise, and it's a pretty smooth ride when your just cruising.

Cons:
Heavy as shit (almost 2 tonnes), handling...noting to brag about, interior is mediocre, and a huge ass C pillar that blocks your blind spots (reversing and changing lanes)
look at this video SKIP to 1:00

Camaro
Pros: like the dodge challenger, it too has a nice exterior (from my perspective), better handling, faster, lighter, smooth ride, and the interior was more unique

Cons: it was a little cramped inside, small trunk storage, it has blind spots like the challenger where it's rear pillar is blocking the view (reversing changing lanes)

What do you guys think would be better for a long term (5-6 years)
I'm all ears for advice and criticism. :)

a guy at my work has the 2010 SS and it's one sexy car. I personally think for future the camaro has a cleaner look with a bigger name which will help hold resale value as well the new 2011 convertible is one of the nicest domestic cars out there right now.

try driving the ford, itll change your mind.

If your set on the challenger or camaro go for the camaro.. But try the ford the new mustang is amazing.

In terms of a DD it's whichever you prefer the look of, and whichever is easiest to drive in traffic.

Personally I think the new Camaro has a better look than the Challenger. Do you need 4 seats? I know a better option. ;P

have been inside the camaro during a test drive....the interior is very cheap plastic and overall plain ugly. Also the engine and exhaust are very quiet for a car that is so powerful. The exterior is very nice though, its a waste imo...why cant they make it sound better and spent more time designing the inside.

I was all over buying the new camaro until it was test driven. Never driven the challenger but I assume it would be similar.

I agree with everyone who talks about the Camaro. Most everything I'd think of saying has been said already.

Its where my vote lands

I have a friend with the Camaro and one with the Challenger R/T. Interior on the Camaro isn't great, but I bet the car won't depreciate much. I don't really see the appeal in the Challenger. It looks bland and handles like a large bus.

It's already been said ITT, but seriously go test drive the 2011 Mustang GT. The new 5.0 is a beast. Overall, it's the BEST modern muscle car. I think it looks great too.

greendb7 02-13-2011 05:21 PM

Personally say the Camaro.
Seems more appealing from my standpoint, as opposed to the Challenger
as yes as others have said, at least TRY out the new 5.0 Mustang
have heard many good things about it

baggdis300 02-13-2011 06:43 PM

x2 on the stang, go give it a test drive, worst comes to worst you already said no stang?

insomniac 02-13-2011 06:59 PM

My vote goes to the stang. LOL. but seriously I like the camaro more. Challenger looks kinda bland and too box like

isnt it alittle too early to be deciding which car to get considering you're not planning to buy till summer of 2012? Thats almost a year and a half away, the models may have changed by then.

Due to a Hertz screw up last year in Las Vegas, I got a Camaro instead of a Corvette... I dunno how tall you are but the Camaro really sucked to drive. I'm only about 5'8 and my head kept hitting the roof over bumps, when I adjust the seat lower so my head doesn't hit the roof, I can't see over the hood. Having also driven the Mustang, I'd go for that.... can't comment on the Challenger

stang > camaro > challenger

stang > all.

flagella 02-13-2011 07:57 PM

I can't imagine getting Camaro or Challenger over Stang. I wouldn't even consider Challenger lol.

Volvo-brickster 02-13-2011 07:59 PM

Challenger SRT-8 with a 392 (really a 391 but who cares ) :D:D:D

Is the guy a sparky named Marcus? lol.

Reconsider the mustang...but if its between these two i'd take the camaro

deep87 02-13-2011 10:27 PM

Its 2011 and people are still using the "Im not a (insert brand here) guy" argument?
Stang is better in every respect and gives the new m3 a run for its money on a track (more then a run depending who you ask).
I can understand 911>GTR or vise versa because of personal taste but buying a substantially inferior product for the namesake blows my mind.

rJZx 02-13-2011 10:29 PM

Camaro > Challenger

Stang > Camaro > Challenger.

Spooling 02-13-2011 10:59 PM

mustang coyote 5.0 > camaro > challenger

bigG 02-13-2011 11:35 PM

A big thanks to you all for the input!

I've decided to scratch out the challenger and WILL give the mustang a try!
And yes, I know it is a bit early to be picking out cars, so I'll check if there is a newer model for both stang 5.0 and camaro!

Yes, I know that the 5.0 is an outstanding performance car, but I am looking for a long term benifit as well.
I'm gonna do some more research on the stang!
