Winds good. I'm on the student plan $25 a month. Unlimited texting and minutes. I can text to the united states too as long as I'm in the "wind zone." cant beat that for 25 bucks.

Mobi has the same plan though they don't call it "student plan."

Mobi and Wind usually have similar plans/price...

coverage is bigger with Wind.. i heard mixed results with reception and data

baggdis300 03-25-2011 11:10 AM

its a matter of time until mobilicity gets better coverage...

as there parent company is a MULTI BILLION dollar corporation, they don't have any money problems....

It wouldn't be surprising if they made a move on either mobilicity or wind, given how difficult the government is making it for smaller providers to move into the telecom industry. But I don't know how liquid they are or if they're in a buying position, I don't think they've posted their numbers yet for last year.

SHAW HAVE OVER 46% profit last year so if your bill is $100 over $46 of that is pure profit for them. I am sure they have the money lol.

I paid $360 + tax for a year of service with mobilicity
live in coquitlam work in north vancouver
I am happy with the service and to be able to get everything for this price point
unlimited calling to all north americans number (US and Canada) is pretty sweet, area code becomes irrelevant when you have this plan :)

crazyazn 03-30-2011 08:44 PM

I'm thinking of switching to WIND/Mobilicity as well...currently on Fido retentions ($17.50 + $10 CID/VM/2500SMS + Flex Data)

Thinking of going with Mobilicity $25 + $10 data add-on

Any comments on current coverage/reception of WIND/Mobilicity?

I'll be in Vancouver/Richmond/UBC 90% of the time.

reception is pretty much the same as Fido when i had it. Richmond, van, ubc is pretty much full bars out in the open. Indoors is a different story.

Alatar 03-31-2011 08:31 AM

How are mobilicity's data speeds these days? Any improvements on past speeds?

How bad is it indoors...? No reception at all? lol

Alatar 03-31-2011 01:57 PM

The frequency that Wind/Mobilicity operate on (1700) doesn't have the penetrating power that the big 3 (850) get through, for example, concrete walls.

Wind/Mobilicity were trying for the 700 frequency, but I can't remember the details of that auction, or when it's supposed to happen. If either of them do acquire that band, and the Big 3 don't, that means the indoors issue would be reduced/eliminated.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong with anything I said here.

FerrariEnzo 03-31-2011 02:23 PM

there still deciding on how to proceed with the auction.. whether to allow Robellus to bid or not.. Rogers already has around 80mhz of the AWS band themselves which they plan NOT to use, plus whatever else they have.. the reason why rogers has soooo friggin much is to stop any new carriers coming... this makes rogers the largest spectrum holder at 160mhz in north america.. which is twice as much as Verizon, and they cover more area then rogers does... Bell/Telus has a combine total of around 140mhz spectrum... if robellus were allow to bid, you can pretty much say good by to wind/mobilicity... as their current spectrum isnt going to compete...

on a good news, i like mobi's $25=$10 unlimited data.. expect wind to follow as well..

asdfpic 03-31-2011 02:55 PM

mobilicity's reception is very poor in buildings

Alatar 04-02-2011 09:46 AM

I'd rather not suck at the teet of Rogers' 2g network. I'm already slurping away at the teet of their 3g network.

I'm actually just going to go with 2 phone, methinks. :troll:

crazyazn 04-02-2011 11:26 PM

The only reason I want to switch to Mobilicity/WIND is because of the unlimited and (In my case) faster data.

baggdis300 04-03-2011 02:23 PM

mobilicity has the cheapest plans..

the shitty part is if you don't have a c/c you have to pay 3$ "transaction fee" to get the store to add $$ to your account.

but then again u should just buy a years worth of service for a couple hundred

oh and USA roaming is 20 cents per minute, 15 cents per text and 5$ per mb definitely the cheapest pay per use roaming..

rien 04-03-2011 05:33 PM

my dad is going to be in surrey/burnaby most of the time. wind or mobilicity or virgin mobile? he just needs voice.

tiger_handheld 09-08-2011 02:45 PM

no one knows.. If the iPhone5 supports the AWS, then you can just get the phone from anywhere and it will work...
