Valentines day is designed for card companies and florists to make mega bucks.
Notice roses are really expensive right now? It's not the florists. It's the wholesale price. Unbelievable how much they hike up the fucking price.
Commercialism at its best.
Jewellers are in there like a dirty shirt as well. If anything, we should all boycot Valentines Day. Not the day itself, but refuse to play into the spending money to show your love and devotion crapola.
Nothing wrong with showing your love - just do it without having to be held ransom by this shit.
It all starts at an early age. Remember school and all that giving cards shit? Candygrams and shit like that?
I don't know why I'm so worked up by all this, 'cause my family knows better than wasting money on useless shit. There's way more important things to spend money on. Like tuition, the mortgage, food on the table, etc. No wAnder so many people are in debt. I saw this one old bag spending 55 bucks on fricken cards a couple of days ago at the local Shoppers Drug Mart. She laguhs and says, "I can't take a chance on forgetting someone." WOW!! Spend that money on donating to Telethon and really give love to those who need it.
If you need to spend money to show your love, then you haven't got real love.
/rant.
