Just wing it. Also dont be surprised when you run into a 2 hour line up at 7 am. I see it pretty much everytime I cross. I wait until 7 to cross the boarder but thats because the nexus lanes open at 7 and my wait is only 1-5 miuntes. But the regular line is always around the 2 hour mark.

All depends on what day of the week you go... Good thing about malls in the US is that they often open late (at least 9pm).

eg. Bellevue Square: 9:30am - 9:30pm Mon-Sat
Alderwood Mall: 10am-9pm Mon-Sat

6:30 is early enough that border waits are 5-10 minutes, maybe less. I got there at 7:30 once, and it took half an hour to get through.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, the trip was great, and as recommended I decided to forgo alderwood mall and just head to bellevue for dinner instead. Went to Pikes earlier in the afternoon did some sight seeing and managed to avoid most of the rush hour traffic.
