| Is my SSD doing OK ??
Is there any way to improve my SSD speed because based on the Crystal
Disk Mark the figures does not look good. See the picture below:
I am using AMD Phenom X3 3.1 Ghz with 8GB of 1333Ghz DDR3-Ram and running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bits on a with a Intel INTEL X25-M 160GB G2 2.5” SSD .The current OS on my SSD was copied from my 500gb SATA2 HDD. SSD is connected to SATA0 port. The SATA setting in BIOS using SATA as IDE and not ACHI.
Please kindly shed me some light.

how long have you had your SSD?
the more you use your SSD the slower it will eventually become
as fast as SSD's are, their speeds will slowly go down as usage goes up

Ahci is recommended for ssd. However you'll need to add the windows ahci drivers before you make the switch.

What SSD do you have installed? Kinda need to know what you have in order to give you some options.

thanks for all your help and after setting my SSD to use AHCI instead of IDE or SATA, the speed had been increased dramatically. See Below :
Since I already install Windows 7 without setting AHCI first, so I follow the instructions from AHCI : Enable in Windows 7 after OS install

A few other things you might want to try to squeeze more performance out of the SSD:
*A new firmware revision just came out for the G2 drives a month ago. You might want to try installing that to get a bit of a performance boost. link
*Install and run Intel's SSD Toolbox once every month or so. ( link
Here's the same benchmarks I get on my drive (which is the same 160GB G2 Intel SSD) |

iirc the toolbox will clear off the old data that's previously deleted. Ie trim on the new drives.

Sorry for the threadjack. I got my 60gb Vertex 2 back on Boxing Day and I'm kinda lost sometimes in this AHCI/ formatting lingo. How do I make it so only the OS is saved on it? I made it my primary and use my 2TB green and 500gb as my media drives but no matter how hard I try only savings things on the others my 60gb is slowly reaching its capacity. Is there a way to lock it down after I format it to make sure it runs optimally?

Thanks for your tips and since my SSD had been upgraded to the latest firmware, so U guess I only need to run Intel SSD toolbox to keep it at the tip top performance.
Thanks again. Quote:

I'm using a 64gb and I always hover around 13gb free. You can relocate your browser cache to another drive as well.

I use WinDirStat to see what folders are using the space on my drive. ( link) Use that and see which folders are taking up the most space and see what's in them.
Be careful of what you delete though - if you don't know what the file is, Google it first before you delete it.

After enabling AHCI, now my windows boot time is 31.605 seconds. Do you think this is within the norms ??

31 seconds? Mine was about 20 when I had my OCZ Vertex 2. It was 14 when I tested with Boot Timer.
