04 TL Knocking sounds

Hi all,

Just yesterday I started to hear knocking sounds coming from my engine. It can only be heard from the outside, and only when the car is in D and has rolled for a few feet or more (ie: if you just start the car, change gear to D, and open the window you can't hear it)

The sound faintly resembles someone knocking on your door, and it has a periodic rhythm to it too.

The car just hit 50,000km and has oil changes done whenever the car tells me to, the gas tank is always filled with 91 Octane from Chevron. Is it simply just time for me to do a tranny flush or is there a greater problem at hand?

TIA!

Does it knock only after you shift? Or always when your in d?

It might be a sign of transmission failure tranny flush with honda atf might help.

Sounds like the tranny. I believe there was a recall a while ago due to insufficient lubrication of the transmission's secondary shaft second gear.

Just found the problem today:

Had my brother step on the brake (since the sound goes away if you shift away from D).

Popped the hood and immediately heard the sound coming from the driver's side. Held on to the intake and boom the sound was gone. Turns out that the lower mount bracket from the intake snapped off, which is a common problem with any CAI in the TL.

Low and behold, the intake was banging up against some of the metal inside the hood.

Thanks for replies guys!

Wow!! You bought it low then, must've been a garage queen. Expensive it was, I bet. Hope I don't run into any troubles with my car.
