Ordering gear from the US ?

Have you guys ordered any camera gear from the US ?
I'm looking at this

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...ipod_Legs.html

http://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-055XPROB-Tripod-Outfit-410/dp/B000V7JEMW/ref=sr_1_29?ie=UTF8&qid=1299183632&sr=8-29
ordering from Amazon.com is a bit cheaper but its still coming from the US.

BHphoto's shipping from Puroltator calculates the duties and HST at $77

I did however find the legs on amazon.ca for $189.95
http://www.amazon.ca/Manfrotto-055XPROB-Tripod-Legs-Black/dp/B000UMX7FI/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&m=A2HOYD7OMXREOA&s=generic&qid=1299184711&sr=1-5
So from BHPhoto the 055XProB w/ 410Junior Gear head would be $451.57 after shipping and duties. Possibly a bit lit less from amazon.com
shipping is free within the US also so sending it to my cousin's place is an option too.
IS there any store in canada that can come close to that ?

from what I've gathered, it's very hard for stores in Canada to come close to US prices. What you are buying locally is peace of mind, warranty, and service. So it depends on the warranty terms and if you really need it.

Occasionally there are good deals here and there, but much harder to find locally here in Vancouver. Not to mention this item is quite heavy... I use BH as a pricing reference for no warranty used items.

i.e. looking at a sigma 30mm it's $500 total @ BH and this woman wanted $475 (no warranty) and I offered $380 (she said pass). Mind as well get it from merkle/aden from ontario with full 10 yr canadian warranty for $600.

i just use photoprice.ca

for the 055xprob. b&h is the best option unless you want to pick it up from across the border. you still save 50ish bucks with b&h at the end for just the legs.

yeah just the legs at B&H is actually only $149 but u have to add it to cart to see the price. the bundle with the head drops the price another $9 or something.

So far I figure in canada prices the best I could find was $189.99 +$10.99 shipping through Amazon.ca and then Henry's for the head for $219.99 not too bad.

thanks guys

Have you thought about using TSB at point roberts or hagens at blaine for US shipping? They would charge about $5 tops to store that for you for 2 weeks and you can go whenever during the day basically
My gf uses the 055xprob it sure weighs a lot IMO but that has it's advantages I guess

Even if you use TSB youstill have to pay taxes coming back. There's no duty but there's hst.
