the lure of JDM parts are mainly their packaging and finish. Usually you don't run into as much of a headache fitting a JDM header vs a China knockoff....Also you are more likely to find exotic material in JDM versions (like Titanium exhaust, etc) than the China version.

Suspension-wise, though, it's a hit and miss. For example, a set of Megan coilover and a set of Greddy Type S coilover are entirely the same thing, made by the same manufacturer in Taiwan, just with a different color scheme on the product. Yet the Megan Racing version retails for half of that of Greddy.

Just because a factory pumps out a product for two different brands doesn't mean they're the same thing but repackaged. Quality control anyone?

yeah but in this case, there's practically no difference in QC anyway. The springs are provided by Eibach in either piece and if you break them apart the shock tube will go into either cartridge no problem.

Problem is, can you bear the shame of sporting Megan Racing coilovers? I can LOL.

In drift community, the megan line of coilovers are well respected these days.

Megan, and well respected, in the same sentence? lulz. People only like them because they're cheap.

There's nothing wrong with the price being cheap if the product lives up to its quality. There've been numerous cases of J's racing exhaust for S2000 cracking and rattling. The point is, do a thorough research before spending.

LOL all snobbishness aside it's a major suspension provider in Formula D

Their QC is just fine.

Megan Racing is the brand name equivalent of cheap China parts.

That said, I would buy certain Megan products for my car. Whats the difference between a Megan LCA and Blackworks or Skunk2 LCA other than some fancy machine work?

the only worries you have would be something like this:

But it's not common thing for megan anyway.... maybe more of a problem if you rock rota wheels lol.

both cheap china brands, but one you can trust one not so much....

I would think that Aono and Martinez only use Megan Racing parts on their drift cars due to sponsorship reasons. If they had an option between KW, and Megan, who do you think they would choose?

Megan. Because KW has nothing for an AE86 LOL.

But seriously, though, what's with you and megan, did it kill your father or something? What's with the diss? I haven't yet hear of any catastrophic failure from using Megan products, and being able to do THAT at the price they ask for, is something different.

LOL I don't hate Megan or anything. I'm a firm believer of spending within one's means. If Megan is all one can justify buying then so be it. There are worse choices!

this.

I believe, that while J's Racing charges a very high rate for their products; it is of good quality. same would go for a lot of the niche Japanese brands. it's true that they aren't as cheap and mass produced like Apex-i or HKS, but most of the products are truly tested and have R&D.

you mentioned the J's $1500 header. in the s2000 world, the J's Racing header is probably the best around for an N/A header. equal length tubing all the way down, with noticeable improvements in the mid and high range

I have a megan mid pipe paired up with my spoon n1.

The mid pipe is so failed cause since the first install, the mid pipe would bang against the chassis. Had it fixed sinced then.
I have also a Megan testpipe, why is it garbage? Can you elaborate?

here we go with the whole megan thing again..

i had same set up as hk20000 does for my ae86.

for what i paid for the kit (1000 brand new msrp) it was more than enough for the car. the suspension with springs compressed and dampers on stiffest would actually destroy the ae86 chassis. and honestly, i cant justify paying 3200 for the same stuff with a greddy logo on it.

three owners after me and four drift crashes later, the suspension currently outlives the car. the car is still ripping around, abeit crunched up on the front end. quality product tried and tested.

it just goes for applications, some are better designed, made and engineered. some not. i mean seibon's stuff when they first came out had their ups and downs. now, their stuff is pretty consistent car to car.

depends on which parts i guess..?

my old megan coilovers still havent rusted up yet on the threads for the perches..

my friends old k-sports though... rusted and seized with crap on it.

i guess for lower tier brands like those, it all depends on applicatons.

i got a rear tower bar from megan and it works great. no fit finish problems, no complaints. it works just fine.

The company that I'm especially interested in at the moment is Blackworks, there stuff looks like its pretty good quality, perhaps better than Megan, at very low prices.

My only cncern is the testpipe i'm running, my engine light stays on, and i smell oil quite abit, i've heard those two things are normal though when running test pipe as it started when i had the install done by G5. Is that true as far you know?

without an o2 simulator, engine light would stay on. o2 detects that theres no cat, hence throwing the code.

and straight pipe with a stinky exhaust is natural...
